  Looking at an osdev project made with LLM agents and I can summarize my feelings into: “stolen valor” Like, osdev is the bastion of writing useless projects for fun and learning through pain, where you come out the other end with some mad impressive skills and demo to show. And in between the mundane code to set up paging or GDT slip in bits of your own mind transformed into code that is truly yours forever. New APIs, novel algorithms, or just creativity. With LLMs you learned nothing. Lame.

  Quickly dove into the copy.fail exploit. 1. Yes, it's real. 2. Current chain can write any arbitrary content to any user-readable file (into the page cache). 3. Current chain relies on an available target suid binary that you can open() as a lowpriv user. 4. Current exploit relies on that binary being /bin/su and then being able to execve(/bin/sh, 0, 0) (which doesn't work on alpine, etc.). The former is easily replaced in the code. The latter needs a rebuilt payload ELF (also easy).

  I can finally reveal some research I've been involved with over the past year or so. We (@redford, @mrtick and I) have reverse engineered the PLC code of NEWAG Impuls EMUs. These trains were locking up for arbitrary reasons after being serviced at third-party workshops. The manufacturer argued that this was because of malpractice by these workshops, and that they should be serviced by them instead of third parties. 1/4

  Here's what I've been fighting FreeCAD over with today. It's a spin coater for @fafo, based on the Maasi project. I've redrawn it in FCAD instead of F360 with some FFM DFM fixes, built in hackability (M3/4 screws mounts), a latching lid, better splash protection around the vase, vent holes and maybe vacuum mount support via a hollow shaft motor. It's still an early draft, but it's ready for some test fit prints. Also on the way is some PP/CF filam...
