Hello #freebsd folks. I'd like to get into FreeBSD and play around with it. What book is recommended to start with? @stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe do you have any recommendations? Have this Thinkpad T480 that still is quite capable. I'd like to use it as my learning testbed.

Buy CDs, BluRays and DVDs and build your own Mediastreaming service via Jellyfin. No adds, no algorithm. No pulling media from the platform, no change of pricing. Start to use networks again how they were meant to be. Participate, don't just consume.

FWIW just donated 5 bucks to #Blender . If you use it, like it, can afford it. Do the same! Software development is hard work!

Since I was vocal about the Anthropic #Blender topic I am working on a small video that hopefully can convince people to donate. I stand by what I said about Anthropic but I also acknowledge that Blender Foundation has actually reacted to the people which is absolutely not the usual case for "normal" businesses. And I acknowledge that people who work on Blender have to actually pay rent and and eat food.

Environment-Mapping never gets old. Not sure if it is good for the environment, though, with all that chrome.

Still proud of my small Lego demonstration of what PCSS tries to simulate.

How many texels are fetched when doing a texture-lookup in the fragment-shader? I think 2x2 was common across multiple GPUs? But maybe now it is even 4x4? Curious, because it would explain why 16 tap PCF runs so fast that my GPU makes the loudest coilwhine ever hear of. Doing 32 taps already cuts the framerate by 4! And 16 taps don't do anything to the framerate. So PCF at 16 taps is free (seemingly).

Is there a turstworth estimate when prices for (memory) hardware will fall again? I am in need of some SSDs, heck, HDDs even. But not willing to pay that.
