  ok i said i was going to rate limit the takes, but i saw someone observing that they were doing LLM agent stuff on a personal project, and it got so much done but it was extremely unenjoyable. and i just have to say... please, for your personal projects, if you don't enjoy doing it, please don't. really. i don't care what it feels like everyone's doing, there's no point in making yourself feel bad with your hobbies.

  it's gotten to be really, really difficult to avoid slopcode. i'm not sure it's actually possible atm. but i can tell you this: i'm going to be trying very hard to use things that don't, and i won't recommend or encourage the use of even a single piece of software that i know uses slop.

The reason so many developers have gotten taken completely in by LLMs is actually the same reason so many CEOs have: LLMs flatter the ever-loving shit out of you, and a lot of software engineers have egos the size of a planet.   you know. we should develop software slowly. we should actually take our god damned time to make it good. ai is slotting into a world that has software changing constantly, and promises to help us do this even more, but it's literally promising the wrong fucking thing. we don't need to get faster at making changes, we need to get better at not making pointless changes. good software hardly needs to change at all.

  today i found out... a) the more ergonomic wrapper for curl i'd used every now and then, httpie, somehow became a fucking startup and got a whole GUI project around it and millions of dollars of funds and WTF b) and of course it's promised AI integration. for some reason. i must stress, this isn't even as complex as postman. it is _literally_ curl but slightly nicer, particularly for poking ad-hoc at REST APIs.

  ended up looking a little at the laura croft remaster collection... oh no it's got AI scaling on the textures and the cutscenes. you can turn it off to get the vintage crunchy graphics, but that's the default. and not only is it AI graphics scaling, it's _circa 2024_ AI graphics scaling. why... why did they _ship_ that? it doesn't look like high-end graphics, it looks like an amateur "high end" texture pack -- that is to say, like ass!
