Good step @fastmail@mastodon.social - I'd still like to see a full shift (they still use some 3rd party services in the US, and logs are still written out to the US), but it's a positive step.

I wish people stopped describing Trump as a fascist, because it has too many cracks to fully survive the counter-arguments. He's an ASPIRING fascist, and I think that qualifier is critical. There are yet limits to his power that he is trying to erode, but they exist, and I think that is a hopeful fact. There are bulwarks to build on in resisting his attempts to become a fascist. He's not there yet.

It is remarkably hard to know if an EU tech service still uses American infrastructure.

I decided to watch Margo's Got Money Troubles, and I am again struck by the fascinating dichotomy of Nick Offerman. On every level he looks to be this macho, grumpy redneck who would shower with a MAGA hat on, and then you learn again just how kind and thoughtful and compassionate and loving he is.

RE: https://social.amsterdam.nl/@gemeenteamsterdam/116442174413168243 This is cool. The municipal government is asking for people to help test an api that provides wheelchair friendly navigation directions. The idea is to catalogue obstructions in pedestrian spaces. They aren’t making a navigation app, but data meant to be folded into other existing navigation apps.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@dutchnewsnl/116448481983612781 Eh…it’s not bad, but they could do so much more. €49, only for non rush hour, is more than the existing unlimited NS weekend pass, although this plan includes bus/tram/metro (but still non rush hour). Even if they approve it, I’m not sure I’d bother using it (but for less mobile people, maybe it has more value)

RE: https://ohai.social/@pictor/116449177285286875 Ohhh... I may have misread. €49 might be the price of the 3 month pass, not per month. If that's the case, that is a good deal. I am still not sure I use transit enough to need it, but it will be a very nice pass for some. https://www.dutchnews.nl/2026/04/cabinet-says-yes-to-e49-season-ticket-lower-tax-for-lorries/

RE: https://gruene.social/@jon/116465317138450928 It’s interesting to me that the trans Canada is in this ballpark, except it’s all one train and has catered meals. Canadians…do the trans Canada at least once in your life.

Apple needs a better subscription insights page that gives a €X a month, and €Y a year summary total. I can go down my subscription list and add it up, but I shouldn't need to go row by row mentally adding it up.

I didn’t notice, but the price of electricity was a MINUS 47 cents per kWh earlier today. I’ve seen it drop negative, but never THAT negative. I could have gotten some decent change by running my TV and turning on all the lights at that time.

In anticipation of apple maps starting ads, I am going to give OSMAnd maps a try. Directions, searching, transit..let’s see how it does. It is, if anything, too much info. It has individual park benches. You may call that good, but it makes the map so busy. Also no street view, but I can fall back to Apple maps if needs must. Still, let’s give it a whirl. #OSMaps #osmandapp

I may have found an atheist on Youtube that I actually like. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS5YtyTzVJo_N-vjub8te3g I find most atheist youtubers give the rest of us atheists a bad name. They are focused on the sound bite, and feeling smugly superior. Heliocentric seeks to understand the faithful. He goes to churches, witnesses services, and engages with what he sees compassionately and thoughtfully. If he criticises, it's not directed at the parishioners. #atheism

This year's Eurovision is going to be such a troubled event, and I feel resistant to watching it (not just because Netherlands is boycotting), but I still want to support the artists themselves. A friend had an idea of holding a party where we don't watch the show, but we do play the songs and do improvised lip syncing, and honestly, that sounds like such a fun party. #EuroVision

I'm having trouble caring about Artemis 2 It's a flyby. It's a tour. So what. LANDING on the moon is cool, but that's not until 2028. I'll check back then.

@caseyliss Where does Callsheet gets its list of actors for a show? I was looking up the new Maul show on D+, and it only lists 4 actors. Interestingly it's the exact same list of 4 on trakt.tv. However IMDB has way more names, and thetvdb.com only lists 1, so I'm wondering who defines that set of 4?

WTF - either this is a weird scam attempt, or someone just signed up for a walmart account using my gmail address (which I never use, but it forwards to my main account). I got an email saying "Thanks for signing up", then an email saying a passkey was added, then an email saying I had subscribed to their Walmart+ plus plan using a Discover card for some monthly fee. It never prompted me to click anything, or fill anything out, it all seemed to be just FYI confirmation emails.

I just noticed my #Aeropress is sort of worn down and abraded inside. Like..the plastic feels slightly rough to the touch, and it really makes me think about how much microplastic I have rubbed off into my coffee. I've had it for years, and probably time to replace it. There is a Dutch company called Jor which makes a knock-off, works the exact same way, just a different brand, so I think I'll try local.

How does Apple not sell a protective case for the Apple Pencil? The tip of my pencil sheared off while I was on the plane, and I had to get it replaced (trade in repair, didn’t need a brand new one), and I just wanted a simple case. No luck. There are some very inexpensive ones on Bol, but that doesn’t help me now
