I'm starting to think there's two types of people: Those who have overseen SWE interns, and those who think vibe coding is "pretty cool". ๐Ÿ™ƒ

It is apparently impossible to power off an iPad if it's plugged in. This makes me irrationally angry.

This year seems to be a rare "population surge" year for the California tortoiseshell butterfly. We saw *hundreds* of them on our hike in Carson Valley. They would come flying through the woods in a straight line, like they were all on the way to somewhere in a hurry. I thought maybe they were migratory, but no- it turns out this is just something that particular butterfly does once every 5-10 years or so for reasons unknown. ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿฆ‹ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_tortoisesh...

RIP Bonnie Tyler. Thanks for the power ballad that I think every GenX'er has belted out at the top of their lungs in the shower at least once in their life. Which reminds me of one of my favorite viral twitter jokes: --- Cop: "Turn around!" Me: "every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never coming 'round" Cop: "TURN AROUND!" Me: "every now and th..."

I should have taken a photo for a mastodon post, but: TIL never leave a PoE Ethernet cable connected if it's possibly going to be exposed to moisture or a solvent, &etc Unlike the rest of low voltage Ethernet, the differential between the two 48VAC pins for PoE is enough to cause arcing and even works great with a solution to nicely oxidize the connector pins. I removed my PoE cameras and taped off the connectors to get our house painted, but I didn't disconnect the...

WAIT, MUSK LITERALLY NAMED HIS SUPERCOMPUTER "COLOSSUS"? Like, I mean, I guess if you are going to build The Torment Nexus you might as well just *call* it the Torment Nexus, but... here I was just thinking that these AI founders need to (re)watch Colossus: The Forbin Project as a cautionary tale only to just realize one of them literally named his datacenter after it ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Folks. Listen. I'm going to do a little bit of critical thinking on your behalf: If you know someone who lives in a relatively small community, and something from that community makes the national news, I guarantee the person you know in that community already knows about it. They likely knew about it days or weeks (or months) prior to it making the national news. So you don't need to ask them if they know about it. Really. (And they've already been asked by everyo...

UUUGGGHH so the latest update to Grafana seems to have <checks notes>: 1. Fucked up the fonts in the gauges 2. Added AI This might be the point that I just start opting out of updates and take my chances. With effin' everything. #BurnItAllDown
