This week's environmental #shapechallenge - always looking for a less obvious way to use the shape, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but at least my new apple pencil tips work I guess!

A little retrospective on the game I've been obsessing over for the last few weeks: https://open.substack.com/pub/peejmaybe/p/we-have-invented-a-new-language?r=1rtod6&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Everything they say about Manchester people is true. I nearly got hit by a cyclist (entirely my fault) and all he said was “C’mon mate!” - then cycled off. No swearing, no threats of physical violence, spitting, etc that I’ve seen in similar situations in my locale. I wanted to apologise profusely for making him break hard but he was gone in a flash. Gentleman, my sincere apologies, I was tired and didn’t look!

If there's been one constant in my career in IT, it's that people think absolutely nothing of dropping some steaming festering pile of absolute shite on you before a long weekend, brushing off their hands as they do so, so they can enjoy their weekend knowing they've just offloaded said steaming festering pile of absolute shite on someone else.

Ugh I hate when there’s no transition between cooler weather and the feeling of being thrown head first into a blast furnace

Exhausted after a horrible hot night where the neighbour from Hell and his horrible clan resumed their “let’s make everyone else’s summer as miserable as possible” annual campaign of being noise terrorists and burning things in their back garden. Cunts.

My wife was mocking me because she said I couldn’t write a bodice ripper to save my life, so I laid out a story about the romance between a doge palace castrati and a Venetian lady in waiting set in 17th century Venice and she made this face -____-

Wow, never thought I’d see the day Co-op would catch the KPop buzz. Just saw #aespa Shin noodles in there (and Buldak but it’s definitely not the right weather for those!!)

As I went down a "Voice of the Beehive" listening journey yesterday I thought it'd only be fair to pay it forward - this album, by Northern Irish band The Adventures - was glued into my personal stereo as a daydreaming yoof. Wonderfully over-produced anthemic pop with soaring vocals and great memorable songs.

There was a question on the radio this morning from a kid who asked "What WAS Captain Hook called before the Crocodile bit his arm off" and I sincerely hope no Disney execs were listening, because we don't need a 3 and a half hour long movie digging into Captain Hook's tragic dark back-story.

Kiddo had to quit being a young leader for Brownies because of the now compulsory DBS checks, which are handled by a US firm known for harvesting and scraping personal data and photos. Welcome to 2026.

Googling insect species always dishes up some exotic thing that the actual bug you’re looking for just vaguely resembles. Which is how we misidentified a common window gnat as a long legged assassin bug!

Couple of boomers we know who are climate change deniers and vociferous advocates of continuing to use Fossil Fuels "Because all that green rubbish is just that, rubbish" are now buying an electric car because of the price of fuel. So if there's one good thing that comes of the current situation it's that boomers suddenly fall in love with electric vehicles when it looks like oil's going to punch 'em in the wallet.

Oh dear, DLC dropped for Roadcraft, that'll be me lost to that game for the next (looks at watch)...er....forever I guess. At least it'll wean me off Valheim which has rapidly turned from "Oooh, ahh" to "Ugh, Argh" in terms of grinding and frustration.

Yay more mandatory infosec training and a new special section on AI that is quite the work of dramatic fiction.

Oh dear. Our place is once again making rumblings about returning to the office for a minimum of 2 days a week. Thankfully our managers are turning a deaf ear to this request, which has absolutely no business worth, no value, no basis for the request other than "We don't trust you to be working from home"

Now my brain is trying to remember all 9 of the Wiltshire hill figures and carvings Including Uffington there's Hackpen Hill, Pusey, Cherhill, Marlborough, Westbury (though the concrete monstrosity there now covers a much older more stylised horse like the Uffington one), The Bulford Kiwi (yeah I know it's not a horse but still!), Fovant Down, Alton Barnes, Broad Town and a relatively new one (1999) at Devizes.

Musings on York Uni taster day... 1) Some parents need to let their damned kids go! Yeah I'm talking about you folk who 'gatecrashed' the student free lunch and the student course sessions despite being told not to! You can't go to Uni with them, you zeebs, let them get on with their lives! 2) Yorkshire people are as friendly as you've heard. A teenage boy apologised for nearly running me over at a crossing on his bike, and I mean PROPERLY apologised. We...

Dim realisation this morning as I was giving a presentation for new starters at our place that I've been working in IT since 1986. Forty. Years. I swear, in those four decades I've heard just about every lie it's possible for someone to concoct on the basis that they did something they shouldn't have, got fucked by it, and tried to wriggle out of it by calling in IT.
