It already has a social impact on the people’s whose intellectual property was pirated, the underpaid employee traumatized by nsfw filtering tasks and the reduction of white collar junior recruitment. AI could make sense one day if it comes with UBI to compensate its social impact and it optimizes enough industrial processes to compensate for its ecological footprint. We are from this and there’s nowhere enough political pressure to make it happen.

The tobacco industry is a good historical example of all the shit world dominating companies do. The most sneaky thing I can remember is that they finance perfectly good research on a lot of causes of cancer, except for tobacco, so researchers were too busy to investigate tobacco.
