@phillyotter@bear.community tbh I’m not sure what the implications are… Maybe good in that there is more oversight over public companies but I know the new CEO is also quite conservative: https://time.com/6221545/grindr-ceo-george-arison-tweet-conservative-politicians/

As we talk about the future of online discourse atm amid Twitter's meltdown, I implore scholars explicitly commit to social justice and anti-fascism. We should give no quarter to the mealy-mouthed both-sides-ism embedded in, for instance, research on "polarization." Vague platitudes about the "marketplace of ideas" fails to reckon with the fact that far-right online discourse is a specific driving force behind offline stochastic terrorism. @katymontgomerie Here is a lil explainer afaik: 1. Home is who you follow 2. Local is everyone on your instance (in your case all the accounts on katy.media) 3. Federated (kinda everyone the accounts on katy.media follows) If you are the only person on your instance then local and federated are a lot less important https://hci.social/@nprandchill/109243311209526432

Rather than just saying "this is NSFW" using descriptions like "leather' or "frontal male nudity" However, I've noticed big discoverability issues around finding these communities

The instance beta.Mstdn.cf seems to be creating accounts that mirror prominent Twitter accounts without consent, leading to impersonation issues #FediBlock

@ruchowdh maybe try to get the mastodon.social mods to block the domain beta.mstdn.cf #FediBlock Per this snide blog post, looks like the instance was set up as a Twitter-to-Mastodon bot by someone not thinking/caring about the consequences of their actions: https://write.as/nicolas-constant/closing-the-official-bsl-instance

@tizan @ruchowdh the goal was to port content from Twitter to Mastodon/ActivityPub so you could follow folks here without having to use Twitter The goal makes sense but the way it was executed does not (e.g. why not change the username or bio to make clear it is a crosspost bot?)
