RE: https://fosstodon.org/@nobodyinperson/116526914580592694 Okay as it's such a hassle to get a working #Spyder going on #NixOS, I made this flake so you can use this command to launch Spyder with your desired packages available: > nix run git+https://codeberg.org/nobodyinperson/nix-spyder#withPackages numpy scipy pandas matplotlib ... EDIT: 👆 And Mastodon still can't do Markdown, so it wrecks the displayed link. If you copy-paste it, it should be correct though. More...

Has anyone here published with @plosclimate? My manuscript is slowly approaching submission state. It is a very technical paper about the essence of my #PhD: quantifying natural #CO2 emissions at the #Starzach site (Turns out, it's a few tonnes per day! 🤯) Reading through the existing #PLOSClimate papers, mine seems a little too mathematical, but I guess it's fine? Typically one would submit this to AMT or JTECH but PLOS is a nonprofit, which I want to support. #meteorology #P...

Once you are done fighting it, documents typeset with #TexLaTeX are pretty damn rad! 🚀 The automations you can put into place to help you focus on the actual writing are really something else: - different modes for notes, submission, and publishing - acronym or physical unit expansion only upon first mention - auto-generated glossary or symbol list - and of course a ton of (back)references Paired with a good PDF reader (such as the one built into #Zotero), the backreferences ROCK! 🤙 #PhDLife

It's done, I successfully defended my #PhD! 🤩 My amazing colleagues @umphy made this gorgeous hat for me 😍

And here is my published dissertation @umphy, about quantifying the natural CO2 exhaust at the Starzach site in Southwest Germany (my result: ~10t/d): http://hdl.handle.net/10900/176213 I used a lot of #FOSS software and hardware for all of it and it was amazing. Honorable mentions: #gitAnnex, #dataLad, #KiCAD, #OpenSCAD, #PlatformIO, #Arduino, #TexLaTeX. I just wish I'd used #nix / #nixOS sooner. licensed #OpenAccess under #CreativeCommons CC-BY-4.0 #PhDLife

It takes ~10 taps all over the place (plus completely losing your current scroll position on the timeline) on the Mastodon mobile webpage to add a simple word filter for things you don't want to see. I love that this is possible at all here, but I really wish this process was easier. #Mastodon #UX #UI

RE: https://mastodon.green/@vattuvarg/116114030843378264 Come on #LinuxMobile people, we're very close to the 10k mark for the new #SailfishOS #Jolla2 phone. Reaching that, @jolla will open source "The Other Half", the amazing changeable backplate with hardware accessories the #Jolla1 already had. https://commerce.jolla.com/products/jolla-phone-preorder
