Here's a clip from my presentation at Algorithmic Art Assembly v3.0. I asked everyone in the audience to take out their phones and load a system state in Wax, the web-based audio synthesis application I've built over the last couple years. We performed a short piece together using our phones, which were transformed into virtual harps in Wax by accessing device accelerometer data and translating that motion into harp notes. Our motions were guided by the instructions on the pre...

Here's my presentation for Algorithmic Art Assembly v3.0 based in reveal.js. https://nnirror.xyz/aaa3/ I briefly explain my background and past projects and then do a deep dive on my web-based audio synthesis and live-coding system, Wax, including 6 short live-coded demos. Then I do a performance with the audience. I ask everyone to pull up a Wax state on their phone using a QR code. This Wax state uses the device's accelerometer data to play a digital harp. We then perform mu...

the hi hat shuffle work in this song is so poor, producers wrote based on a 6/8 feel but didn’t notice how the 16th note straight hi hats that don’t even line up with the groove, annoys the shit out of me! protect bernard purdie from this lazy time keeping! https://youtu.be/oIv_Y2RPQ_A?si=sot5-mhFcux9YXjC

been working on this max for live device that computes the complexity of the input audio signal using an algorithm called "non-sequential recursive pair substitution" written in the gen~ codebox. in short the algo is measuring how many iterations it takes to compress the input signal buffer (1024 samples), then that's normalized between 0-1. since feedback contains repeating oscillations which typically are of a lower complexity, this can allow you to persist feedbac...
