  Update about Linux travails: Did a fresh install to F44, was fine, but after updating the kernel, same problem. I strongly believe the problem is with the current kernel for Fedora. Again, no log messages available, but being able to use the first kernel to boot is a strong indicator. Kernel version jumped from 6.19.10 to 7.1.4. Must be something in that kernel that's causing the failure. So I'll wait for the next kernel to see if the problem goes away. I have no log messages so that&#3...

  For the first time ever for me, a @fedora@fosstodon.org Fedora upgrade has gone bad. I can boot using an old kernel but the updated kernel just causes the screen to go blank. No error messages, no anything. Upgrade was from 42 to 44. Documentation indicated a two-version jump was OK to do. Still trying to make sense of the situation but hard to do with no error messages.

  Music files, especially lossless files, can be huge. My NAS is running out of space and has started beeping all the time. Since the NAS is next to the dining room, we've been getting to hear it all the time. So I've shut it down, at least temporarily.

  This is stunning. For decades, the station was WOW, a mainstay of Omaha radio. Big signal, too: 5,000 watts at 590, nondirectional day *and* night. Not even sports talk could save it, it appears.   Public service announcement: if you're a male in your 60s and above, talk to your physician about getting a bone density screening. While routine for women, they're not routine for men. I had a bone density screening literally by accident: after fracturing four ribs in a biking crash. The test indicated significant bone loss, i.e. osteoporosis. There are medications available to help. My physician told me that she believes older men should be screened for bone loss, but it&#3...

  DOTI's (Denver Department of Transporation and Infrastructure) commitment to Vision Zero seems half-hearted at best. Examples: Nothing done to address the speedway that is Monaco between 6th and Colfax. Using RRSPs instead of HAWKs or full-fledged bike signals for the Krameria-Kearney bikeway.   My cousin died about a week ago. Graham was 60. We weren't close, but we were on friendly terms. He was a high school janitor for almost 35 years, retiring earlier this year. I found out too late to get to Missouri for the funeral. My other relatives filled me in on what happened. The funeral was at one of the largest churches in his city of 6,000 people. The local school district dismissed classes early so students and staff could attend. They filled the church. There was story afte...
