All this mess with the tree on our house and #StateFarm handling it so badly has left me without much willpower for anything else. But somehow today I managed to get the #motorcycle together for a ride to Columbus (from Cleveland) to see my kids (who are at my mom’s; see “State Farm”, above). And man, I’m glad I did. Such a head-clearer. And such a beautiful day for it.

I have (re)discovered a branch of #mathematics: uncountable numbers. It works like this: On day 1, I go around my house and count all the #plants. I get a number. On day 2, I go around my house and count all the plants. I get a different number. This experiment reproduces on any pair of days! 😜

The last ~30 hours have been quite good: I made cookies and they turned out great, I rode my motorcycle to and from work on a beautiful day, I spent the work day brainstorming and learning with my team, and I hung out with good friends and had good food and played cards.

This is the OEM-recommended way to fix a loose grounding strap when the bolt that holds it down has sheared off, right? I love the cost of old cars. But I hate all the yaks.

I had one of my favorite things happen today. I turned down a hiring candidate. (Not the favorite thing!) They wrote back asking for feedback. (A second-favorite thing!) I sent them honest feedback. (Hard to do.) They replied saying it really was good feedback and they really gained new insights from it, and thanked me. (The favorite thing!) I share it here because it’s nice to share good things. I hope it makes you feel good to know that a good thing happened today :)

My process for listening to background music when I&#39;m working from home: 1. Realize that I&#39;m free of meetings and have time to concentrate so background music would be nice 2. Turn on the speaker 3. Get distracted by some notification 4. Respond to it 5. Work, maybe for hours 6. Realize I never started my music 7. Start my music (Or sometimes step 7 is pre-empted by another notification!)

I’m so proud! In math class, the teacher told the kids they could have notes for the exam on one side of a single piece of paper. My 16yo twisted and taped his paper into a Möbius strip! Apparently the teacher was dumbfounded… and then allowed it! (I mean, how could he not? It was *math* class!)

It’s been over three months since I went to the gym. Between starting a new job, commute times, holidays, and winter, I haven’t mustered the willpower. But today I’m back, and I’ve lost a ton of progress. But I’d forgotten how good it feels. I think it was a mistake to led that feeling fade from my memory. #workout #gym

Remember how #MerrillLynch is on my never-do-business-with-them-again list? My money is finally free of their clutches! But I’m still getting spam from them, and my attempt to unsubscribe is a perfect example of why they’re on that list. Some of their emails don’t have an unsubscribe link.
