Visited the border museum in Schlutup the other day. The northernmost previous boarder crossing between the BRD and DDR during the cold war. Also crossed a border between two German Bunderländer (Schleswig-Holtein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) on foot for the first time. #Schlutup #grenzdokumenationsstatte-schlutup #travel #ddr #brd #scheswigholstein #mecklenburgvorpommern #photo

I dusted off an old idea to show duration for walking segments of public transit itineraries that I played with a year or so back. Now that the list is using flowboxes, which can wrap contents to multiple lines when needed I think it will probably look better: #gnomemaps #PublicTransport #PublicTransit #transitous #routing #Gnome

Made some more progress on the implementation of the “stoptimes” API from MOTIS in Maps. Now actually showing departures (or arrivals) in the place details when clicking on a “public transit-type“ place (station etc.), when there's data available in Transitous. The rows still only shows the transit mode icon and line number/name (e.g. missing time, destination and so on…) #gnomemaps #gnome #motis #transitous #PublicTransport #PublicTransit

New point release for the GNOME 48 series of GNOME Maps, 48.3 released today with a couple of bug fixes, as well as updating the map style to use the new Adwaita Sans font. https://download.gnome.org/sources/gnome-maps/48/ Also available in the stable Flatpak on flathub.org #gnome #gnomemaps #mapstodon

Now that the new release of MOTIS with translation support has been deployed for Transitous, I implemented support for passing the language of user's locale(s) to the API. This shows an itinerary rendered in Japanese and in the second example with romanized names (this relies on translation.txt being present in the corresponding GTFS feed data, though). #transitous #gnomemaps #mapstodon #PublicTransit #localization

Experimenting with showing platform information for the public transit itineraries in Maps (when available from datasets). Maybe these labels spelling out "Departing from…" and so on are a bit "wordy"… #gnomemaps #transitous #PublicTransit #motis

Came up with this little “trick” to play around interactively with packages and APIs in jshell (Java's interactive shell) when developing a Maven-based project: # Gather dependency classpath mvn dependency:build-classpath -Dmdep.outputfile=deps.cp.txt # run interactive shell CLASSPATH=$(cat deps.cp.txt) jshell Now classes can be imported inside the interactive shell from any libraries used in your project. So that you could experiment with things iteratively. #java #Maven #jshell #co...

Predicting maglev trains might reach a break-through during 2026, I think it might be time to change the “default generic” icon in the route mode switcher widget for transit in Maps from the current train to a new variant! #gnomemaps #monorail #trains #April #mapstodon
