I had a brief moment of fame on this week's @RecDiffs, starting at 8:00 in (https://www.relay.fm/rd/283), where I shared my favorite name that sounds like a sentence, Victor Fell Yellin (author of _The Omnibus Idea_). (They took two stabs at the pronunciation of my last name, Merlin picked right.)

Today I was on a call with a younger person on my team, explaining some thorny interactions in some part of the code I know well. At a certain point he said something like "I think I'm starting to understand why you are the way that you are." (I took this as a compliment, though I'm not entirely sure it was intended that way.)

Every day I get closer to walking slowly into the sea and/or moving to a shed in the mountains with no internet connection. [He says, having just reviewed yet another PR to instruct a robot to follow the instructions it should already have been following.] I'm so sick and tired of having replaced deterministic systems with random noise generation, and it is really sucking out any enjoyment I once had in my job.

I have watched this video of Lawrence's "Don't Lose Sight" maybe...15? 20? times this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C01nBm6vV5c The music is great, and by about the 10th time I realized the lyrics also very relevant to me recently! Don't mind me, just idly singing "and this shit ain't ever gonna change" all day long.

I was away from the house for like…16 hours or something overnight, but that was enough for Marshall to miss me, I guess.
