RE: https://hoosier.social/@michael/117005382083495304 whoops forgot the “don’t” in there. definitely don’t do what my og post said thats very very illegal and hurts your police force. also definitely do not bring any kind of saw near a camera pole just in case you trip and fall into one.

I wish I knew more about Home Assistant programing to help get this added, but damn would I love to pull more real time data about my energy grid usage into Home Assistant. Shout out to the people who are both smarter than me and have the time to work on these integrations. https://github.com/orgs/home-assistant/discussions/3256

Fun fact: I would use Apple Books on my MacBook as an EPUB reader, but they don't allow custom fonts, so no OpenDyslexic for me! Meanwhile calibre just opens my books and lets me set the font to OpenDyslexic. Such a weird accessibility limit by Apple that in turn makes it just that much easier to leave their walled garden.

RE: https://mastodon.online/@dcdeejay/117011347137028687 This makes me upset to be an Eagle Scout. Scouting is for **everyone**, and should ultimately teach those people how to handle what life will throw at them next as they become adults. Nothing that I learned in my troop taught us to preemptively comply and exclude others. Not very morally straight of y’all.

privacy screens are great on phones, but some can suffer from having noticeable lines that make the screen quality look so much worse. Otterbox made a great one that I had zero issues with, but since my iPhone 15 Pro is “too old”, I had to buy a Zagg one to replace it after it shattered. Pros are that it’s 360° so it also blocks from above and below, but cons are that it has really bad lines :/ how is a phone that’s two generations old no longer supported by third party accessory makers?¿?

That rain was awful. Pretty much all of the factory arts district was flooded. Water got into our basement too so we’ll have to talk with the landlords about that.

It’s so nice to have the robot vacuum responding again to automations. I feel like I’ve hacked this thing to run for much longer and be smarter than it was initially designed to by doing a battery replacement and integrating it with Home Assistant.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@TheWarOnCars/116580272907663373 such a great read, highly recommend even if you don't already use other modes of transportation besides car

one of my biggest gripes with the wider fediverse is this attitude that “this is the way it needs to be done” and a refusal to acknowledge the faults that keep regular people away. if you just let people come here and use it like they did twitter/instagram/reddit/whatever without gatekeeping, maybe these places would look a bit different. go try and use lemmy for something that isn’t politics or linux lol.

Might have just found a GOLD MINE of vintage audio gear on the Indy Craigslist of all places. I can't afford the whole lot like they want to sell it, but I'm shooting my shot on a few of the pieces here https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/ele/d/indianapolis-vintage-stereo-collection/7931959704.html

Wrote just a quick blurb about my Indy Mini experience this year. It's fun to use my personal 2026 bingo card as a prompt for these blog posts as I check them off! https://michaelkovacs.social/blogs/2026-05-14

Moving servers is probably as good as a time as any to finally make an #Introduction post. Hello! I'm Michael, I'm from NW Indiana (#RegionRat), still in Indiana, and I'm an audio engineer. I'm primarily in corporate audio, but I freelance around with bands and venues in Indy. I have an #IndieWeb website up in my bio that I blog at from time to time. Big physical media nerd with #Vinyl & Blu-Rays and love pretty much anything #Music or #Film related. Mov...

"We believe this transaction maximizes value for existing stockholders and positions the Company for long-term success" and then some yada yada about delivering for customers. Public utilities that need to be monopolies should not be run by companies idk how many times I need to say it. https://mirrorindy.org/aes-indianas-parent-company-to-go-private-in-blackrock-led-33b-buy-democrats-decry/

It’s incredible how little I trust companies now that are publicly traded. Late stage capitalism really fucked up any brand loyalty. Sitting here listening to some AI adjacent company say this is the next Industrial Revolution and of course you have to say that, your entire stock price is riding high on convincing people that’s the case, regardless of if that’s what people want.
