It would be pretty cool to have real privacy laws in this world, so people could go about their business without having every single action they pursue monitored and carefully calibrated by private multinational actors so they can be targeted and manipulated at any moment at any future date. https://arstechnica.com/security/2026/08/new-surveillance-tech-links-your-phone-to-your-license-plate/

Funny thing I learned today for reasons I can't share: all the ringing and connection noises you hear when you make a phone call from a cell are no more real than the static on flat screen TVs set to a dead input. They're just recordings being played back for you to signal to you it's working.

No disrespect to Schneier, but "job vs gym" is an argument about automation vs exploration, not an argument about AI. Sure, automate what can be automated. Get yourself forklift certified. But the real question when it comes to "should I do this myself or should I let an unreliable text generation tool do it" is not "human or the LLM". If poorly or unoriginally or unreliably is an option the question is "does this need to be done at all." https://www.sc...

New to me thing that I have to assume is a scam, where searching for a particular company's particular products leads me to a site that looks a great deal like a legitimate vendor of that company's products, offering sale prices on real products, marked down an almost believable amount from correct initial prices. The URL is a bit too shady and the sale is a bit too good, but... that's it, those are the only signs. It's so low key I have to respect it, even if I'm not typing...

If a company with a "Generate this with AI" button also gives you a "Report AI Slop" button, you should know that your protest vote is being used to train the models until the slop is invisible.

Serious question: Is a country actually a sovereign nation, if a citizen of that country can be prosecuted under that country's laws for voicing their opinions about an entirely different nation? Or is it a client state with frilly outfits and a short leash? https://www.opendemocracy.net/palestine-action-filton-24-charlotte-head-rajiv-menon-kc-contempt-of-court-judge-johnson/

Half the time it's ads for detergent, and half the time it's the most idiotic snake oil medical-fraud nonsense I've ever seen. I do not paricularly want to figure out how to get an Android phone with GrapheneOS but "no good adblocker on iOS" is the thing that's going to force my hand.

Check out the ambition on this guy. I’ve updated my pizza dough recipe to equal parts water and flour and longer in the stand mixer. This guy got a five or six hours rise on the counter, and then it’s portioned into ziplock bags in the fridge until Friday to get that cold ferment going. I think I’m going to go for that cast iron skillet technique this week. https://exple.tive.org/blarg/2026/02/10/pizza-progress/

So… the current state of iOS games and mobile gaming generally is “this whole ecosystem is an afterthought” now, correct? Apart from some arty endless runners (Alto, Tiny wings, Canabalt, etc) and some novel uses of the medium (Device 6, Prune, Hundreds, Ridiculous Fishing) is this all gatcha grindouts and threadbare ports of years-old pc/console games?
