  GCC has released Release Candidate 1 for GCC 16. The final release objective is for late April or May. GCC COBOL (gcobol) 16 is included in the release with many fixes and improvements. #cobol #gcobol #gcc #cobolworx

  "Brace for Patch Tsunami" -- AI used in the hands of "skilled and knowledgable" people is supposedly going to surface a vast pool or latent bugs (technical debt .. be very afraid). Reports here and elsewhere ndicate that like most AI claims, it's mostly slop. Apparently AI is not being used by "skilled and knowledgable individuals" willing to actually verify that AI found anything real or is just wrong. #technicaldebt #bugs #defects #...

  Now thst the @carolinacodes toot is up ... GCC 16 is out there in Source. We have packages on our Gitlab instance but because of a DDOS attack, mostly out of Singapore IP addresses. We got some settings in place and it looks like we can reopen it next week. https://gitlab.cobolworx.com. Repos will have to be made public as well.   In the spirit of @hyc@mastocon.social: Bob has taken on the hardest optimization yet: ADD 1 TO A. A can be so many things, seemingly irrelevant details. And National Languages and Wide Character ... We've made progress on performance, the tip of the spear should be much faster than gcobol-15 or gcobol-16. gcobol-16 is the Release for which COBOLworx fprovides commercial Technical Support.
