I cross compiled a project of mine for aarch64 and got a little bit confused when it would just run on my x86_64 machine. Turns out there is a kernel module named &quot;binfmt_misc&quot; which acts as a registry for unknown architectures. It checks against the ELF header and executes the binary with the registered emulator (in this case qemu-aarch64).
