Very good use of space all around. Especially around the toolbar area. Very good distinction between content and UI too. Ample room to grab the window from the toolbar and move it around. Love it.

Here you can compare iWork ’06 vs iWork ’08 design. I think iWork ’08/’09 (very similar design) were my favorites. They had peak productivity-app design. #MacOSX #iWork #Aqua

I totally appreciate that things weren&#39;t so big, bold, and bubbly back. It used space efficiently and was still totally beautiful ja todella usable.

Given that the display on the iPod Photo was so tiny, flat UI would had been okay for it but even with the UI it actually got, it still looks so good, classy, and high-end even 22 years later. 😮‍💨🤩🕺

I feel like a lot of modern Mac apps were designed with this mobile-ux mentality so for items that should open in a new window, they open in a model instead -- when they don&#39;t need to. Mac apps are best when they take advantage of multiple windows if/when appropriate.

Tradition: 4th of July weekend means I get to have my Mexican Hotdogs. They’re spicy as hell. Chili flakes and jalapeños cooked alongside the onions and hotdogs. Serve with some arroz rojo and bam. This is on a non-retina display and even the tiniest of icons in the app are perfectly pixel-aligned. Ugh. We need to get back to this _level_ or craft. When did we start preferring slop over art?! Oh yes… I when the entire industry decided flat design was the way to go.

Makes me sad that people would rather spend more time on icons, silly animations, theming on their apps than what actually matters. Apple became the gold standard on UI design not primarily because it was pretty — but because they came up with solid mental models that backed the app’s design in a way that just made sense (to most people). Then they would make it pretty. But ease of use and simplicity was the goal. Themes, icons, silly animations don’t matter if your app is confusing to use.

It’s so depressing people so hyped over the instant gratification of AI slop code at the cost of their own thinking and learning. First, they came for your data and behaviors. Then they pushed custom algorithms to get you hooked on content. And now they want you to offload your thinking, creations, and wonders onto them. Pick up a damn book, learn something, and go touch some grass. Ugh.

Came across a really neat #AppKit API today for NSSearchField. In macOS 26, you can give it an array of example-searches that it will animate through when - the field is the first responder/in focus - the field is still empty This is great for things like a maps/location search to show how specific or generic search terms can be. The property to set is `placeholderStrings` (plural) Check it out:

Contacts #macOSTahoe is so broken. First, the new design sucks. You can no longer change widths between your contacts list &amp; the contact details view. Second, creating a new contact glitches out resulting in data loss. Here&#39;s a video of me trying to make a new contact TWICE; both times losing my data. It also flickers A LOT. This is Microsoft-level software quality that I would have never expected from Apple. How do you mess up something as simple as contacts? Guess I gotta fi...

I am almost done with #QuickTune for macOS 26.0 Tahoe compatibility… There is only annoying regression... Apple Music no longer allows me to get album artwork if you&#39;re streaming from Apple Music or listening to an Apple Music radio station. However, once added to your library, it will show the album artwork. Not sure how or why Apple Music has so many regressions on macOS... :-/ One plus is that the corner radius now matches exactly between Mac OS X Tiger &amp; Mac OS X Leopard...
