I lol’d but as a Mexican I can attest that they’re not lying about the good vibes. I’m in Mexico City for this one, which means that, even if I always hated soccer, my emotional stability today depends on my people winning. #worldcup

Its Commencement day at MIT! I think at Harvard, too. It is one of my favorite days of the year and I plan to spend it admiring families’ pride and joy and taking pictures for strangers on their big day.

All I can think of today is that one of the youth I love the most is doing her admissions exam for national university in my country 😭😭 It was one of the most traumatic days I ever had and also one that entirely changed my life. May she get in, may all of my country’s youth find a good path.

Another 7-course meal prep day, I'm getting used to it! Today I doubled it to feed a friend who just had a baby. I have more friends having babies in the next few months, so I'm going to try to make this my routine every couple of weeks.

I'm enjoying my last days of officially getting paid to be a historian, so tonight's gem is here. (Also, I regret to inform that 'Kill or Get Killed' didn't make it here on time for Memorial Day...)

Hello to folks following me after my most recent historical postings. I am a historian (ish), interdisciplinary social scholar of computing and surveillance. I am wrapping up my beautiful life at the Science, Technology, and Society program at MIT, where I am writing a dissertation about the sociotechnical trajectories of surveillance in Mexico, from Napoleon III and French anthropometrics to P*gasus and AI-enabled CCTV :)

My 5c is that I have not yet seen a substantive critique of the encyclical. I mostly see a few rants by folks who are pissed off they didn't get summoned to the Vatican while other cool kids did

So as I approach dissertation submission, I am considering including an AI disclaimer that confirms that chatbots were never part of my research, writing, nor editing pipeline. I did for a moment wonder if a locally run AI model would be worthwhile use of tech for the bibliography, buuuuut I just saw a plea from a managing editor in a journal asking folks NOT to use AI for structuring, formating, or harvesting DOI data for their bibliography.

Something about my current life that would surprise 2016 and 2006 me: how much joy in my life comes from my own experience with my teen kids, with my friends as they have their own kids, or send their kids off to college, or as they support them as adult kids.

If I could promote one (1) collective realization in the Boston area, I would make everyone realize that the time we take getting on and off public transport makes a significant difference in travel time. Thank you all, happy Monday

One of the strangest things about my world right now is that middle schoolers largely look the same as middle schoolers did when I was in elementary school, except that their brains are occupied by AI slop instead of Britney Spears choreographies

From @quinn@social.circl.lu I learned to be grateful that I have seen the tops of clouds. From living in Boston I learned to be grateful that I have lived to see the spring blossoms again. Few things are more tear-inducingly beautiful than cherry blossom rain. #BostonMA #CambridgeMA #spring #flowers

Beyond the scale of the mission, it is always heartwarming to me to see science and crewed space exploration in the public interest. Though ESPECIALLY in the aftermath of the Blue Origin PR we have been force-fed with the rise of the billionaire obsession with space (and the depths of the ocean, I guess). #artemis2 #artemis
