I ended up doing everything - boiling water, portable flamethrower, weedkiller 😬, and finally physically digging out the old garden, hauling away the mess and having my neighbor regrade with a bobcat. Let it rest a full season, then finally started building Frame-it-all raised beds in the fall and every nice early spring day. Ta-da! #gardening
