  Strategies: 1. Rather than work on the protocolverse as a whole, work on an instance. An instance is the unit of community. It is what crystallizes learnings. 2. Invent a values-included version of the fediverse, so that the tech and community are united. Make an offshoot of Activity Pub that is useless to nazis. 3. Study happiness in the fediverse so we can do more of what's working.

  @luka @nf3xn Here's a thing I didn't know how to handle. I was reading the thread as hosted on dair-community.social rather than my home instance. I saw a comment that was clearly abusive (and unforgettably gruesome). Would I report that to the admin of dair-community.social or to the instance of the commenter? Or both?

Kim Crayton has made it perfectly clear why she is on fediverse and it's clear they know what they are doing. That's ultimately correct. This person owns their own bad experience and has a trivial way to fix it that nobody else can do for them.

  @hollie The post by @J12t@social.coop was not asking for proof, it was asking for data. The poster is a long standing contributor to the fediverse with an interest in making it better. Also, the tone of his post was neutral and polite. Your reading is a misreading.

  @jdp23 That poster is on an instance with no block list and no moderation. The design principle of the fediverse is to use filters to craft custom environments. Anybody can post anything somewhere.

  @ErickaSimone There's a big flurry of conversation around racism in the fediverse in the past couple days. I've been reading back through threads and finding that a lot of the conflict I'm is misunderstanding and miscommunication.

  @luka @nf3xn I'm not sure about that. If so, I think it probably just happened and timnit hasn't had time to make changes. The place seemed pretty much abandoned when I was poking around.

  @jpf I love emoji sentences. I made that long one that I posted by typing a sentence into chat GPT and asking it to translate into emoji. It's weird how it is almost vaguely sort of kind of understandable.
