Update: @talldarknweirdo@mastodon.social pointed me to https://www.theedkins.co.uk/jo/lace/eqfinish.htm - which is exactly what I was seeking. Hooray! Now I just have to actually *do* the thing... 😁 ~ ~ ~ So I have unearthed a real challenge, and I'm hoping for help from the #fiberarts crowd... I started this #bobbinlace project in college, 30 years ago. It's been sitting in a dusty corner of my home office ever since - mostly because I don't know how to finish it! Can anyone...

It's voter-turnout postcard season, bitches! 😁 Got my latest batch of 200 postcards to swing voters in NC from https://turnoutpac.org/postcards/ Mailing date is 10/21, and I'm actually starting on them early, so I won't be frantically writing at the last minute. Future me is gonna be *shocked*. :innocent: To quote @Diami03@infosec.exchange - candle is lit, music is on... 🕯️🎶 #activism #GetTheVoteOut

Just read this @monteiro@simian.rodeo essay on motivation (no, really, it is - you'll see) and it is *giving me life* today. "I’m not encouraging you to be petty, but if the choice is between pettiness and bitterness… pick the one that has you making molotov cocktails behind the shed at 3am." PREACH. https://buttondown.com/monteiro/archive/how-to-be-a-petty-motherfucker/ #lifehacks #smash

"When the people who built and operated your cloud would rather knead dough than touch a terminal again, that’s not a career pivot. That’s a trauma response." https://www.seuros.com/blog/aws-fired-the-human-who-made-the-difference/ The enshittification escalates... I walked away from tech almost four years ago with a case of burnout you could see from space. The intervening three years have only made me more grateful that I left when I did. (I wish all my friends and colleagues st...

#MakeShitMonday, in which I have planned poorly... We're at the annual National Speleological Society convention this week, so I have *five days* of presentations to attend. Prime #crochet opportunity! And did I bring enough keep-hands-busy material? No, I did not. 🙄 I just finished a beanie and a matching cowl, and I thought they would be one skein apiece, but they're significantly less. I'd love to make another set, but I don't have a scale, so I can't weigh the consu...

Today was #TomatoDay at our local #farmersmarket! I picked up a collection of heirloom varieties to do a #tomato tasting board... Clockwise from top: White Queen Early Girl Yellow beefsteak Chinese sugar tomato Black Beauty Red beefsteak Copia (center) It is Too Damn Hot for complicated cooking, so we picked up some sushi-grade tuna at the market fishmonger and just did a quick sesame-seared tuna to go with our tomato bounty. (And some balsamic vinegar & shaved parmigiano to go on the to...

Does anyone here know how to get around the stupid fucking folder access restrictions in #Android ??!? I'm trying to use syncthing to back up my Download directory and getting "cannot use this folder" when I try to access Download. Rooted phone, running Syncthing as superuser, granted superuser permissions in Magisk. But apparently this is some OS-level bullshit... (It also says "to protect your privacy, choose another folder" which is fucking *rich* - as if Google wa...

Happy rainy Saturday! I'm so excited for the first farmers' market flowers of 2025 - Will at Ever Laughter had these lovely little bundles of anemones... (I don't really have a vase the right size, but fortunately Mom recently gave me a ceramic flower frog that she found on a trip to Canada. Not exactly how it's intended to be used, but I love it!) #BloomScrolling

@jerry@infosec.exchange @zackwhittaker@mastodon.social Pulse Secure's problems started way before Ivanti. I was at NetScreen when we acquired Neoteris in 2003 - back then, the SSL VPN product was *fantastic*. The Juniper acquisition was the beginning of the decline - Pradeep didn't give a shit about anything that didn't run JunOS, so ScreenOS and Secure Access were among the many red-headed stepchildren that came into the product portfolio by acquisition and then were completely ne...

This is *brutal*... "There are no more juniors. There was a funeral for their passing in 2024. Nobody came. The machine does what they do now, but cheaper. Of course, juniors weren't valuable for what they produced, they were valuable for who they would become: the senior engineer who knows where the bodies are buried. We optimized for output, and abolished apprenticeship. A few years from now, we'll wonder where all the seniors are. We shot them. Nobody will remember." https...
