  today in things you may not have known: during quake's 10 year anniversary, john romero released the sources to all of the original quake maps, singleplayer and multiplayer, under the GPLv2. the textures and models are still proprietary, of course, but the maps themselves are free for the world to use

  the members of the Vortex Quake II dev team (myself included) are working on a big update that supports the q2repro engine and quake 2 remaster content, including adding all of the remaster weapons, and integrating them into Vortex's RPG-like character upgrade systems i am very excited for this

  i find it very interesting that llama.cpp, a project presumably maintained and contributed to primarily by people who generally have a decent understanding of LLMs, has a strict policy against predominantly LLM-generated contributions, bans accounts who violate it, uses an AGENTS.md that tries to rope the agent into enforcing this and warning the user, and they have also discussed adding canaries to catch people lying about AI use and not sufficiently reviewing its output
