Book 102: Fayne by Ann-Marie MacDonald. One of my favourite reads this year! I was absolutely riveted for the entire very long book, and the plot twist about halfway through blew my mind. I saw some people complaining about the ending but I love a bit of magical realism in my Gothic fiction.

Book 103: Something of a Calling by Zoje Stage. Loved the story, but the writing was either too terse or I was spoiled by the last book I read! The way the ecological aspects were combined with horror was definitely my favourite thing about the book.

I got myself a men’s bunnyhug/hoodie for my hospital clothes (because the women’s hoodies at Costco were either all synthetic or cropped) and the pockets are big enough to fit my iPad! It’s a little ridiculous just how much bigger men’s pockets are

Upgraded my medical appointment folder to a folio case because the paperwork I have to bring to each appointment has gotten a bit ridiculous. This pin feels like a good decoration for it 😝

It’s #WorldEmbroideryDay ! I make #SciArt #embroidery of #anatomy and #symptomatology. After I got sick with #MECFS in 2015 I started stitching as a more restorative creative practice than my previous music and theatre work.

Book 49: Make Me Better by Sarah Gailey. What a fantastic novel! The pacing is absolutely exquisite and draws out the creepy elements in a very thrilling way. If you enjoy themes of cults and climate change this is one for you. I realized when I started reading it I had reserved it on Libby without reading anything about it just because I’ve enjoyed Gailey’s other work. Going into it cold made it even creepier.

Book 50: Angel Down by Daniel Kraus. I don’t usually like books set in war because they tend to valourize battle, but this one goes deep into both the horrors and the futility of war. I do love books about angels, especially ones that are more about the awe and terror that comes with experiencing a divine being and this book does that really well. 1/2

#WIPWednesday • My brain fog is starting to lift so I actually got some #embroidery done this week! All in bright yellow. This might be the last colour for this section and then I’ll move on to other areas. #SciArt

Book 51 San Diego 2014: The Last Stand of the California Browncoats by Mira Grant (Newsflesh 0.50). An intense novella in this series. These stories read so differently since the Covid pandemic began. Pairing comicon with a zombie apocalypse makes for a riveting read.

Book 52: Kirkyards & Kindness by Kelley Armstrong (Rip Through Time 4.5). This was lighter than the others in this series—a dognapping is much less morbid than the murders that usually take place. It also flowed a lot better than book 4. The next book is coming out soon and I’m excited about it!

I got myself a speedweve #darning loom! I probably could have chosen an easier #mending project than a delicate cashmere blend scarf to try it out on but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I still need to work on making neater edges but that’s just practice. #VisibleMending
