The cat distribution system is glitched, this beautiful boy showed up on my lawn last night, half starved and very friendly, even with our other strays. Brought him inside and into the spare bathroom overnight so we can check for a chip this morning. Way too pretty of a cat to be a stray, no one just leaves flame point Siamese lying around…

The big secret here is, we never really needed mobile apps. Sure, in the early days there were a few APIs that smart phone manufacturers kept only for native apps built in their ecosystem- but those weren’t used by most apps. Today, there’s no reason to have or maintain a mobile app when 99% of features are available through web APIs. It was always a scam to keep folks in walled gardens. We can choose an open web.

Well I didn’t think I’d be rolling into the weekend learning that MIA is the latest milkshake duck but here we are.

RE: https://mastodon.publicinterest.town/@jobs/116592474997214103 I spent years pushing for the creation of this team and designed the roles. I won't pretend like I'm not heartbroken that I've been denied the chance to lead it, but this is still an incredible opportunity to develop an incredible new team. The SEC does not allow remote work, but that pay scale is INCREDIBLE for a government job.

I don’t wanna yuck anyone’s yum, but I went to see the Mandalorian movie and the CG was so unbelievably bad. It looked like Starfox64, the original version. Worse than Episodes 1-3. I don’t understand how ILM could release it in seriousness.

I went to see Devil Wears Prada 2, which was the exhausting, overwrought mess you’d expect. But the most striking thing was the huge amount of anti-AI, anti-tech messaging in the ads and in the movie itself. There was a Pinterest ad talking about what people did before social media, the Toy Story 5 preview talking about how alienating these tech devices are for children, and throughout the main feature a clear disgust for AI content and lack of human creativity. The tides are clearly turning.

Well, it's official - my role at the SEC has been eliminated and I'm being demoted. The other manager role I had applied for I did not get, in favor of a candidate with less experience. At least I still have a job I guess - in this market, that's something. But I'm not going to pretend like I'm not completely crushed to watch five years of my work get flushed down the drain by folks who have neither the knowledge nor passion to see it continue.

The SEC is hiring! The AWS platform team is hiring cloud engineers, and our brand new digital service team is just getting started! These roles would be ideal for former/current Digital Service Experts! $141,105 to $280,610, but NOT remote/telework. https://www.usajobs.gov/job/862653900 https://www.usajobs.gov/job/862654300 Please feel free to share, but copy-and-paste the above as my account is currently locked down. Just a reminder that I cannot answer questions about these roles directly...
