    @6G@mastodon.social Oof, there's a lot wrong here. First, Kihei is on the western side of East Maui, not West Maui like Lahaina. Second, the ditch system diverting water from the wet side to the dry side was developed starting in the 1880s. Third, Kihei actually gets its water from groundwater wells on West Maui, not from that ditch system.

    @6G@mastodon.social No, it's on the other side of the island. Haleakala is the volcano that makes up the eastern side of the island. Kihei's water comes from the aquifer between Kahului and Waikapu on this map.

    @malwaretech I guess it's possible they could pull not-shutting-down out of a hat, but they're definitely well beyond "regular useless" at this point.
