This post is about the unsung, not so glamorous, tasks of an excavation: flotation, sieveng, sorting, cataloguing, photographing, log keeping...all of which is necessary before the study, interpretation and publication of finds. Evening work at the Apidima 2026 dig 😊

It was a pleasure to attend the Homo erectus conference in Tbilisi last week and present our work on Megalopolis. And what a treat to visit the Dmanisi site for the first time, have the chance to look at amazing fossils and the opportunity to connect with colleagues working on the early hominin record in Eurasia! Many many thanks to the organizers for the invitation, hospitality and flawless organization of this excellent event!🙏🙏 Now off to Burgos for the ESHE conference!

Great to see more of our work on the Megalopolis paleoenvironments published: Roditi et al. (early view) investigate the ecology of Hippopotamus in the Megalopolis basin between ca. 900 and 400 thousand years ago, using stable isotope and dental microwear analyses 🦛🦴🔨🔬🏞️ Open access at the link below: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/bor.70094 #openscience #humanevolution
