It&#39;s wild to me that in 2026, flight crews still spend an inordinate amount of time reminding people they can&#39;t smoke aboard the plane, and that train conductors have to constantly remind people not to open the doors if the train is stopped on the tracks. Like, there&#39;s always going to be a Main Character who will smoke on the plane or open the train doors. No amount of announcements is going to reach them, but it wears everyone else down.

Strava is a rare social network that, despite gamification and algorithmic feed, results in a net positive: users display a filtered version of their fitness life and push each other toward relatively healthy goals. Goodreads also comes to mind. Are there other examples of social networks contributing to a virtuous cycle?
