My cardiologist hates that.

Once I built a pumpkin chucker. Another time, I built an LED cube.

Interests: 3D printing and making in general, synths (playing and making them), learning the bass guitar (rock, jazz, funk), FPGAs and electronics, pinball. I spent 40+ years obsessively coding and studying computing, but that interest has finally cooled.

I want to put a high friction surface on the bottom of a 3D printed thing. Can anyone recommend an adhesive tape that's rubbery-sticky on the front, adheres well to ASA and PETG, and is readily available in the US? I'm making a monitor stand. I don't want it to slide on the desk. Thanks! #FediWisdom

I installed SearXNG in a container on a Raspberry Pi today. It was designed for agents, but it's a darn good experience for humans, too. Page load takes about two seconds, faster than Qwant or DuckDuckGo. No ads, no trackers. In the default config, it aggregates six results, but the config is infinitely customizable. #SearXNG

BEGIN RANT I used Linux, many distros*, as my primary desktop and everywhere else from 1998 to 2012. I used Unix starting in 1982, with Macintoshes off and on since their introduction. In 2012, I moved my primary "desktop" to a MacBook. I liked it a lot, and a Mac is still my primary desktop. Since I retired in 2015, I maintain very few servers. So my Linux sysadmin skills have atrophied. 1/N * #SuSE #RedHat #Debian #Knoppix #Gentoo #Ubuntu #CentOS #SomeOthersIForgot

Meta employees are now having every keystroke recorded to train LLMs. They're smart nerds. They could easily program an Arduino-like to emulate a keyboard and continuously type "Zuck sucks. He must be fired." or similar into a text editor whenever they're idle. For the good of the company, of course. https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/zuckerberg-mass-firing-seven-months (thanks to @cliffle for the link) #Meta #Zuckerberg

I've got a sandbox #Forgejo instance, and I'm thinking about setting up a permanent one at home. I'm thinking about running it on a headless Raspberry Pi with the storage on a TrueNAS box, because that's what I have. Will I regret the performance? - Raspberry Pi 4, 8GB RAM, Docker - 1 Gbit Ethernet - TrueNAS on Denverton CPU, 32GB RAM, disks not SSDs. Thanks! #HomeLab #RaspberryPi

If you use an LLM for work or play, do you think of the LLM as having a gender? Please boost for greater gender representation.

For some reason, I saved all my 3D printing purge towers for the last year. In the last year, I printed 108 purge towers. The tall one in the back is 355 grams. All the rest add up to 346 grams. 701g total. #3DPrinting #Prusa

We all know about TL/DR and AI/DR. Effective immediately, I am adopting YT/DW: YouTube/Didn't Watch. Who has time for a 14 minute video that could be summarized in one paragraph?

Why say it the simple way when you can admix extraneous exposition with attempted eloquence to perform the same explanatory task with a reduction in clarity and grace?

Thanks, @reconbot and @castaway, now I'm playing Clues By Sam too. Except I don't like to think hard. So taught my computer to play for me. The puzzle's initial state and clues are embedded in the source file, and when I run it, it shows suspects being identified and the board being gradually uncovered. Unlock a clue, type it in, and run the solver again. The clue syntax is easy to type, easy to parse and evaluate, hard to read. #CluesBySam #BuildThread

Today I went to the #HomeAssistant Community Day in Brooklyn. It was great! I found out people are pushing Home Assistant to do things I'd never considered using it for. And I got to spend some quality time talking with fellow geeks about geeky things. (I seem to live in a geek desert.) I gave a micro talk on the #FilaBillyHumidor, and it was well received. Thanks @madelena for hosting!

Whenever I feel like ignoring a new technology, I think of my late father-in-law. He worked at Bell Frickin' Labs in the 19-frickin'-80s, and he had never used Unix. Sure, he avoided a lot of dead end over-hyped tech, but he missed a big one. Edit: nor C. He wrote in assembler. #Unix #ThisPostIsAboutAI

I'm starting a new "build thread" (not building anything except pixels, but they're good pixels). This is the "Bubble Universe" graphics hack. I'm going to try to have some fun with it. Follow or ignore hashtag #BubbleUniverse for more. ๐Ÿงต 1/N #BubbleUniverse #BuildThread #GenerativeArt
