Just went past my local petrol station on the bus. Diesel is £1.66 per litre 😱, petrol £1.40. I don’t buy diesel, but the bus I’m on runs on it, and all the food in my local shops gets delivered on lorries that run on diesel.

Can I point out that the oil crisis will actually hit electricity proportionately more than it will hit petrol or diesel, especially at public chargers which are not subject to the price cap, because a lot more of the cost of petrol is tax which won't increase. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/03/12/petrol-price-spike-wont-sell-electric-vehicles-carmakers/

Can anyone explain how this comment, in the Independent, could conceivably violate community guidelines? It is just a straightforward one word "yes" answer to a question.

YouGov is owned by Nadhim Zahawi who is a member of the Reform Party. YouGov is also the most accurate pollster out there, so if they have Reform support lower than all the other pollsters, then they are probably right and the other pollsters are probably wrong. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/03/15/yougov-backs-down-row-nigel-farage/

Yes, the increase in oil prices will bring in more VAT, corporation tax, and Oil and Gass supplementary charge. But, people will cut back on other expenditure to pay for the extra costs, so there will be less tax revenue from that. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/03/16/oil-crisis-could-hand-rachel-reeves-3bn-tax-windfall/
