i thought i was gonna hate-read this article on how much New Yorkers get paid, but it was oddly fascinating to read about how people make money and the joys and anxieties specific to those careers https://web.archive.org/web/20260309121953/https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/new-york-salaries-jobs.html

@StefanThinks @ColesStreetPothole 1) this post goes hard and i respect that b) isn’t this true of many insects? i think fireflies are the same, they only eat as larvae, the actual firefly stage is just for looking pretty, mating, laying eggs and shuffling off this mortal coil

@carnage4life @cate a very weird take, like a glimpse into another reality. “You might imagine this would unsettle and demoralize programmers. Some of them, certainly. But I spoke to scores of developers this past fall and winter, and most were weirdly jazzed about their new powers.” yeah because a decent number of us who are “unsettled and demoralized” (and got laid off thanks to AI boosterism) are simply… not around to be interviewed about workflows anymore. survivorship bias at its best 🤷🏻

@typeswitch team aggressively curate your feed 4eva i love social media and it’s a positive thing for my mental health. a big part of why is i am quick to block, mute, or unfollow. my feed is like a little bonsai tree that i’m always pruning.

@mediapathic.bsky.social i think for me personally i get so much decision fatigue that i decide i don’t want the thing, or anything in its category, after all

@ellyxir it’s all a bunch of nonsense but when it works it feels so futuristic and delightful. my outside lights come on when i pull up to the house at night. turning off my phone alarm turns my bedroom light on. but mainly, the killer feature is not having to get off the couch when there’s a cat asleep on me

@chrisamaphone @stavvers @lea the prospect of keeping track of *any* objects gives me anxiety which ... started out as a joke post but explains a lot actually

my fellow seasonal depression enjoyers might be interested to know that in the northern hemisphere we have now experienced the earliest sunset of the year. due to Reasons, we begin to get evening daylight back before the shortest day of the year, which isn’t until the 21st. but from now on, slowly but surely, the sun sets later every day. it’s just a minute every few days, at first, but things are going in the right direction now. hang in there. we’re gonna make it back into the light.
