My little home made wifi router keeps evolving. Now it has a TFT display, better internals layout with improved airflow for cooling, better raiser cable, repairable heated inserts assembly, and most importantly actually properly calculated antennas RF design with max MIMO efficiency on both 2 an 5GHz frequencies #wifi #electronics #engineering #diy

Test fitting everything into a print and it all actually sits pretty nicely actually. Just a few kinks to work out, and I want to fiddle with printing orientation #electronics #diy

I’ve been giving #freecad a spin this week, and it’s actually much better than I expected I mean it’s not as polished as onshape and draws too much inspiration from fusion 360 workflows for my taste, but it actually has all the right bits and bobs. And I can commit work to git which is neat The “opensource ui” is still a thing to live with though. You’d think in the age of ubiquitous generative AI it would be a thing of the past :) At least it has themes so it’s fixable

So fun story, I’ve been running those as a daily driver for a couple of weeks, and they’re pretty sweet. The problem is that the trackball is on the peripheral side and it beams x/y diffs to the left (central) side via BLE. And because the central part also does HID events to the host over BLE it would oversaturate the RF and I’d get randomly sluggish cursor behaviour. Cont... #keyboard #diy #electronics

lol, framework laptop intro is like "we did blah blah blah", where in reality their vendors did all the innovation and they just packaged it all together are they still supporting that DHH ass-hole? said that, it looks like a decent linux laptop though

also, opensourced my custom ZMK input processors optimised for trackball data processing. mouse acceleration, smoothing, fully featured mouse layers support, etc. https://github.com/kaievns/zmk-trackball-processors #zmk #keyboard #opensource
