Between LinkedIn flagging my account and demanding I give them scans of government documents to prove my identity, and reddit blocking my IP on some range for anonymous browsing (and asking I log in, when I don't have an account), they're doing the work my willpower won't.

You know you're getting old when you read a feature on the CS department that one of your old profs shared, and you see that the current department head is now the younger brother of one of your fellow undergrad/grad students.

During the pandemic, we started playing Yahtzee with my in-laws over zoom (now over meet). Around the same time, I started sshing into a telnet BBS - kind of a nostalgia thing, I'd done that a few times over the decades, including in the early 00s where a sysop from Montreal phoned me (!) to verify my account. I think he was lonely. ANYWAY, once a month or so I play Yahtzee on a BBS. My high score came from having 2 Yahtzees. The person above me would've had 3. The score seems al...

Have a group chat with a few friends from my last company. One just had a baby, so there were congratulations, then checking in on how people were. Asking how I was. And I answered honestly, "happiest I've been since I started as a dev in 06." Nothing's perfect but this is good. I'm grateful for it.

One of my earlier poems (and one I've always loved), published in the Pi Review back in 2020. I remember writing this and having in mind the notion of two people who worked together, felt something, said nothing. But I was going through some old files last night, and came across a journal entry from twenty-six years ago where I'd dreamed about someone who had helped me through some very difficult times back in 1996; how in that dream we were driving on the highway at night...

@sethlombardy When I browse your profile I see something boosted from a day ago, and then it's stuff from 2023.

Have to admit, the "dumb little videos" era of the internet is my least favourite so far.

Every time I use GameFaqs I'm struck by how basic but good it is - no wiki, no CMS, just a text file stuffed inside an HTML tag, written by an obsessive person twenty-five years ago.

Time to slightly update my #introduction as it's now four years later. I'm Julian (he/him), a software developer and writer who's spent most of his life on the Canadian prairies (SK & MB). Twenty years ago I dropped out of my PhD & now work as a software developer. In the evenings I play guitar, viola, and horn, and neglect my poor flute. I play horn in the Winnipeg Video Game Orchestra. I write poetry and code games. I'm hoping to start running...

Throwing this out into the void of the internet: someone I've known since the late 90s has suffered a horrifying tragedy in his family, and is now helping to raise four young kids. Would appreciate boosts <3. https://gofund.me/ddd95856c
