The @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de FOSS Drama continues as predicted with @bizzfed@www.bizzfed.de 🍿 I predict this blog clause will be pleaded by the defendant: "Projects who have an active community that cares about and maintains the software". With my bet for the plaintiff to be pleading the "Projects written and maintained with heavy use of LLMs" clause. #bizzfed #codeberg #fossdrama #opensorce #llm #aiassisted #forgejo

RE: https://mastodon.social/@bagder/117033719030821287 Leading with "free of charge" instead of "free as in freedom" is one of, if not the worst idea that ever took hold in open source. Other than that: Precisely what Mr. Curl says. 👍 #foss #opensource #freedom

Yet another sane, well argued take on LLMs by the Linux peeps, this time @gregkh@social.kernel.org https://social.kernel.org/objects/c344af81-b288-42ab-a1c4-4d34111bdd16 Needed none of the usual drama seen in other places. #linux #kernel #foss #llm #aiassisted

More AI news from AMD, re-use of the better parts of their Strix Halo yield for industrial use cases. "Physical AI" aka robotics and edge use cases. Buzzword galore! 😆 Still remember when "edge" was the new buzzword Pepperidge Farm Remembers https://www.servethehome.com/amds-physical-ai-plans-come-into-focus-as-company-launches-ryzen-embedded-ai-x100/ Something I do find interesting is the claim of hard real-time assurances whilst virtualized with Xen. Looks like the AUR of Arch Linux has drawn another round of fire. This time it appears to be a malware integrated into the build() step that comes with the PKGBUILD repo. Possibly Tor using. If the build() step calls some binary like validator, assembler, optimizer, ... that comes with the AUR repo with sudo and suddenly and unexplained appears in the PKGBUILD be very suspicious. So I'm tracking energy consumption. I also tracked the ACs here. The machine runs the entire day on hot days, where hot >32 degrees C. It reaches a 10-15 temperature differential to the outside. It's consumption over the year is negligible and below what the coffee machine consumes. #klimaanlage #airconditioning #qualityoflife

Quite impressive and detailed pictures of recent GPU hardware. https://www.servethehome.com/asrock-rack-4u16x-gnr2-nvidia-hgx-b300-8-gpu-server-intel-zutacore-review/ Especially the later pages have details on the GPU tray. Useful, reality accepting approach by @gnome@floss.social for Gnome extension developers: https://blogs.gnome.org/jrahmatzadeh/2026/07/27/ego-ai-reference/ The blog comment on using the AGENTS.md format is dead on point. Might even turn this into a skill or a non-llm based/deterministic linter or rules for an existing linter. Someone even made a Gnome extensions profiler if I remember correctly. Sure, some people will generate bad extensions still. Just like they do right now. Others might...

Looks like Flatpak discovery will move from one mostly generally accepted hub to a gazillion of repos since the performative LLM complaints have befallen the possible single hub. (Partially half-understandable arguments, partially performative fluff for my taste) Which is ok as it triggers competition that might lead to better outcomes. (bazaar vs cathedral and all, rite? 😏 ) And removes a possible single point of failure. Now what I'd like to see is an approach that does discovery of tho...

More fork drama ensuing as was to be expected: https://github.com/flathub-infra/documentation/pull/641 Also, thanks for highlighting the existence of https://flatpark.org/ People hosting their own flatpak repos for their apps is increasing as it appears to me too. Luckily the format, tooling and docs for this are pretty useful and enable easy publication straight from Github actions or the likes. Compared to Flathub a rather pleasant experience. Now what'd be great would be a (forge bas...

Here's an interesting one around all the "no projects with the LLM taint wanted here" discussion, taking Codeberg as example: Codeberg offers to host binary releases Current (FOSS) software contains hundreds or thousands of individual works as dependencies in deep dependency trees It can be regarded as nearly certain that a substantial amount of those projects will fall under the exclusion or problematic class as per the rules above Once complied to a release binary those "t...

One fresh FOSS drama coming right up: https://bbhtt.in/posts/flathub-leave/ Whatever has really happened there - the review and update process of Flathub clearly is cumbersome to ineffective or at least inefficient in my view. As are some policies. Very unfortunate for such a seemingly central piece of desktop Linux app distribution. Let's hope for a better evolution over time... #fossdrama #foss #opensource #flathub #flatpak
