@mattblaze@federate.social I stood uncomfortably in front of multiple Texas Public Utility Commission meetings in the late 90s explaining* why we had dropped phone service for a couple of zip codes for part of an afternoon. Today, that's the expected level of service. * with 27 8x10 glossy photos and writing on the back.

21 hours is not 'marathon negotiations'. Two or three weeks, several continents, teams of 50+ experts on both sides, every entertainment from golf to strip clubs. Followed by months of ongoing talks between lawyers, accountants, and engineers. Another week or so of mutual entertainment, stupidly extravagant meals, etc. Finally everything is signed. That was just a voice over IP and network upgrade, with five year support outsourcing. It takes me 21 hours to negotiate a car.

How about a new rule? Any company that lays off more than 50 people in a year is blocked from any use of long-term work visas (H1b or otherwise) for a year.
