Good morning. Yesterday ended with a bit of a whirlwind, given the rumours about Valerii Zaluzhnyi's imminent sacking. The commander-in-chief remains in post for now and, as always, I'm trying to focus on what Ukrainians are saying. Zaluzhnyi is massively popular, and if there was a push to remove him, the rapid public condemnation may have led the president's office to reassess. In any case Zelensky didn't mention the armed forces chief in his nightly addres...

There's a lot to say about #Navalny but that is best saved for another time, because no one deserves to die for trying to make their country more democratic. No one had to put a gun to his head and pull the trigger in order for the Russian state to be responsible for his death. The whole point was to put him in a horrible prison to die. The conditions could decide the method.

@Adventurer The prison service says he died this morning. His lawyer will be there tomorrow and his wife is in Munich right now, so we don’t know for sure yet.

Today marks the start of the third year of full-scale war and Russian warplanes are falling out of the sky. In the last day #Ukraine says it downed an Su-34 fighter jet, an Il-22 bomber, and another A-50 early warning radar plane. The front line is not great, as Ukrainian forces are getting pushed back further from Avdiivka. Russia is thought to have hundreds of new POWs from the city's fall. And of course, civilians are still killed every single day. Another in Odesa last night.

I'll be on BBC Radio Ulster in a few minutes to talk about Alexei Navalny's funeral and the general state of the Russian opposition going into the election #Russia

I’ll be joining BBC News shortly to talk about Alexei Navalny’s funeral and the upcoming election in #Russia (Yes the same as yesterday but my face is on your tv now, sorry)

This is going around on a private Telegram channel – I've verified it's new and it's in Odesa. Zelensky is alive, and he says he and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were at the port when Russia hit the city. #Ukraine

I'm still trying to absorb everything but this may be the worst single-day attack Russia has carried out in #Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion. The air force says they shot down 92 of 151 drones and missiles, but that means nearly 60 got through, and it seems all of the ballistic missiles got through. People are dead and missing and there is serious damage to the electric infrastructure. The internet is down in some areas so this is still developing.
