  I had re-done and cleaned up the sloppy mess I made last fall for plasma 6 on 15.0 but after looking at it a second time, I realized there was plenty of things one should avoid on a stable system, so I just left it alone. It was fun to see it running but it seemed counter-productive to put time into such an old release at this point. But the full experience is out there now for anyone running #slackware 15.0.

  I had reported that wifi on the pinebookpro had gone poof on kernel 6.18 series packages on slackware. As a way to sidestep missing wifi I'd built my own 6.12 kernels from an old config I'd found I had backed up. Went I went to test/compare modules and such today and re-upgraded to kernel 6.18.... wifi just worked. Of course that would happen, makes total sense to me wifi just randomly works again. In hindsight, what should I expect from a $200 laptop? 🫠

  My idea to ship a slack-based system with homebrew & flatpak baked in has mostly just sat on local drives where I try it out & say "that's cool" & just let it sit there.   #Hyprland 0.55.0 is now available within the #slackaroni repository along with various rebuilds following an update for the required #hyprutils as well. Cheers!   I really need to pick up a cheap ssd some day, the onboard emmc is absolutely terrible. It works, but makes the system 10 times slower than it actually is. This is almost a usable system, as long as I don't open more than 3 things and completely forget about browsing the web. 😜

  I updated the #crux port overlay for #lxqt to the latest 2.4.0 release. To use the overlay, one needs to add the 'kde-plasma-6' overlay and then 'lxqt' on top of that. Of course, LXQt supports many WMs, from openbox, xfwm4, to all the latest Wayland compositors like hyprland, kwin_wayland, sway, and even niri, as seen in the attached screenshot. https://codeberg.org/jlngn/lxqt

  I finally got around to updating my #xfwl4 port for #crux and testing it out to see how things are coming along and it gave me a full xfce desktop right off the bat. Didn’t expect that. Things are a little off yet, but it is functioning. Impressive, most impressive.

  I had planned on adding the 'kde-material-you-colors' packages to my repos but after playing around in kde I found options to actually do color theming based upon wallpaper primary color and such are built-in. And now I don't see any reason to add 4 packages to do something you can do out of the box. Sure, material-you is different, but how different, and does that really matter to an end user? In the end, the native option is better and easier to deal with.

  So when I'd updated the OBS packages for arm64 I'd noticed that screen recording wasn't working in gnome but worked fine in plasma. So it appears the gnome session isn't starting pipewire properly any longer, as no sound device is registered. I guess I overlooked that since I prefer silence, seems I need to look into this issue. #slackaroni

  On Reddit today I helped a slacker with a Mac and trolled a gentoo user who took 16hrs to do a bindist install to get a system with noctalia-shell. I keep the scales balanced. 😆

  It looks like GFS is still on #gnome 49 at the moment. I know there's a lot more in GFS than I bother to package up for gnome, but I have to assume it won't be long until it's updated over there. We've talked a bit over the past few days, and I'm pretty sure he's where I am with it as well, so those who wait for packages, it shouldn't be much longer on x86_64 systems. https://reddoglinux.ddns.net/mirror/slackware/gnome

  Any enterprising Slackers can build it from my repo, I'd recommend using "sboui" as I craft things to work in that. There's "meta-packages" for "gnome-core" (base) & "gnome-meta" (full DE) if anyone is feeling froggy, it should all build out of the box. https://codeberg.org/jlngn/slackaroni

  Ok I finally uploaded #gnome 50.0 to #slackaroni aarch64. I still really suggest using “slpkg” as the package manager but slackpkg+ will do as well. Pay special attention to gexiv2 & libgexiv2 and I’ve dropped “totem” and “rythmbox” as they are broken with libpeas and/or gir-2.0. The repo does have “clapper” which is a gtk4 gstreamer video player as a recommended replacement for totem. Outside of that, there’s no more x11 session— Wayland only.   I was looking up if there was a #phonon build for qt6 only commited or what the story is with this piece that still reqs qt5 & qt6 just to build. And a comment by a dev on the repo says the plan is to sunset phonon. So that’s why they haven’t updated it, they want phonon to die. Can’t say I disagree, don’t need it, don’t want it. 🤷‍♂️

  I made myself a liveslak today with plasma, niri, dms, lxqt, hyprland and more junk... bascially chaos. But playing around and I noticed all the dms things were working correctly.... so it's safe to say, my laptop installation may need a re-install, as there's some gremlins breaking things on it. Myself potentially being said gremlins. 😅
