  As of late August 2026, more than 127,031 civilians remain displaced in #WestPapua. For the first time, the Indonesian government publicly acknowledged the crisis, estimating around 122,000 IDPs. Security operations in Yahukimo's Korowai area caused some 600 indigenous Papuans to flee into forests. A 16-year-old student, Victor Bahabol, died while fleeing. IDPs have received no assistance from national humanitarian organisations.

  On 5 September 2026, a military appeal court reduced the sentences of two soldiers convicted in the acid attack against #KontraS activist Andrie Yunus and overturned their dismissal from military service. Civil society groups condemned the decision and called for an independent investigation into all those responsible, including possible commanders.   Between 24-30 July 2026, joint Indonesian military and police operations reportedly killed three civilians in the Korowai region, Yahukimo, #WestPapua, forcing hundreds of indigenous Papuans - including children, pregnant women and elderly - to flee into forest areas. Indonesian authorities have issued no statement. Independent investigators have not been granted access to the area.   Military drone strikes on civilians in #WestPapua are becoming alarmingly frequent. On 22 June 2026, a drone strike on Balamai Village, Intan Jaya, injured 19-year-old Makelon Majau near his home. This follows a pattern of recent attacks: 18 June: Two indigenous women injured in Danggoa Village, Intan Jaya 6 June: 18-year-old Pendite Weya killed in Lanny Jaya 17 May: Grenades dropped on St Paul's Catholic Church, Intan Jaya 16 March: Drone attack on KNPB headquarters in Jayapura

  HRM telah menerbitkan laporan baru yang meneliti dugaan penggunaan ranjau antipersonel, jebakan ranjau, dan perangkat peledak lain yang diaktifkan oleh korban di #WestPapua.   HRM documented 48 victims of extrajudicial killings and 73 cases of torture or ill-treatment in #WestPapua in 2025 — both the highest figures in six years. Drones, aerial bombardments, and booby traps were used in or near civilian areas.   By late 2025, 52 out of 59 schools in Intan Jaya, #WestPapua, were non-functional due to military operations. In some districts, soldiers replaced teachers. A Papuan senator publicly urged the government to build schools instead of military bases.   Between January and March 2026, Indonesian military operations in Puncak Regency #WestPapua involved drone-dropped explosives, mortars, and shootings directed at civilian villages and IDP settlements. On 8 February, grenades were allegedly dropped on civilian areas during Sunday worship services. Internet access was deliberately cut off during attacks to prevent civilians from reporting.
