Outdoorsy softboy dork hailing from New Edinburgh in Space Scotland. Fuck candles optional but always welcome. I have sometimes been known to perform embarrassing Star Trek-themed parody covers, which makes me Team Adam I guess?

Bi he/him.

I went into Project Hail Mary with zero prior research and no expectations, and it blew me away. Felt all the feels! I couldn’t stop marvelling at how strong the emotional rapport between Gosling and (I thought) a CG character was. Until I read up and realised Rocky is a puppet. Makes perfect sense now! Puppets, man! They are the way for sci fi creatures. 5 seconds after talking to a puppet and you forget there’s a puppeteer - the puppet is the person. Petition for more puppets on Trek 🫡.

Look. I'm a long-time FoD. I pay my dues, because I'm in a position where I can. And I'll keep paying my dues over on the relaunch. And I don't know the economics of this. It's entirely possible that Uxbridge Shimoda are looking at a funding cliff and this is the best thing A&B can do to secure the future of the show. [1 / 4]

But this objectively sucks: "So, we’re adopting a model that’s industry-standard for shows like ours." I hate this spin-arse sentence. Just say "we want to use Dynamic Ad Insertion because we hate that some listeners don't pay us any money but still listen to our show". That's the truth. [2 / 4]

The public radio model MaxFun uses is the most ethical balance between funding the shows and ensuring everyone gets equitable access to the content. Dynamic Ad Insertion moves your podcast to the commercial TV model - where you give up some of the control of your show to a sub-network of ad people who don't give a shit about your show or respect its listeners. Instead of hearing a whole episode of TGG, some people are now going to have the experience where, at random intervals, the volume goes up 15% and some excited ad-reader yells in their ears to buy boner pills or invest in gold. It stinks. You don't want that smell on your show. Some FoDs are going to quit the show because of this, and we'll miss them. There's got to be a better way to grow funding without resorting to DEI. [4/ 4]

I know a rising tide raises all ships and all that, and I’m genuinely enthusiastic for Wales. But if they get to independence before us? Pal, I’m gonna be ragin’.
