The dotted ij is part of the text on the screen around the new building of the UB Universiteitsbibliotheek (University Library UvA) in Amsterdam. Erik van Blokland was responsable for the typography. Impressive!

In a shop in Antwerpen (Belgium) not far away from the museum "Plantin Moretus" the wayfinding to the department Women (Dames) in a large shop looks funny. The character m got a special treatment. It lost weight!

Old picture of a strange lettering for a booking office in the Kortedagsteeg in Gent (Belgium). There was even a logo with the mixture of caps and lowercase characters. They recently moved to another building and got rid of "the" or 't. And the other 5 unnecessary capital characters. The old apostrophe hindered. The new lettering is quite an improvement!

The tear-off calendar designed by Karel Martens is now in use. The Dutch designer made this for Roma Publications in Amsterdam. The calendar was recently introduced in the SM (Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam exhibition Karel Martens Unbound) and available via Idea Books (ISBN: 978946440773).

The Karel Martens tear of calendar 2026 has great figures. April 18 has a regular character, the 20 april page looks very condensed. For more info on his subjects see www.martens-martens.com

In the largest European Apple Museum in Utrecht (the Netherlands) a complete DTP-installation is shown. The system (Apple Macintosh, Pagemaker, LaserWriter and a Linotronic 300 filmrecorder/typesetter) from 1985 is explained. Several new developments such as ColorSync and Unicode are displayed. This is one of the Unicode displays.
