  Decided to join an online Chinese group class and I was worried that I joined a level too high. Wasn’t actually too bad tho. Nice thing is everyone is struggling alongside you so you’re not alone if you can’t figure something out.

  My cat passed today. He would have been 20 next month but I still wish we had more time. He lived a nice long life and we shared many cuddles. I can’t believe where all that time has gone. It felt like he would be around forever! I miss him.

  Booked the family a little weekend holiday. It’s nice just to get away sometimes.

  Fired up a new #hytale world and carved into the side of a hill for my first 'home'. Gotta start somewhere, right?! My daughter really enjoyed watching me play this one. She seems to really dig (pun intended) building houses, as long as the game isn't on the scary side.

  Taking a 2 bed house and splitting a room in half so you can sell it as 3 bed house should be a crime.

  Configured a few game servers on my homelab to scratch the survival itch. I also keep losing my worlds so this is setup with nightly backups and it keeps itself up to date. TBH it’s the tinkering part of all this that I enjoy more than actually playing them!

  In order to tackle the ever-growing backlog problem amongst gamers. I propose a new bank holiday and it shall be called Backlog Day. This will allow gamers to finally play the games they bought 5 years ago, but could never find the time for. #videogames

  We moved out of the cave into a house we built over the last two days. Also got geared up in copper gear and took on a bear -- it nearly had us, but we came out on top! It's slow progress since we cap my daughter's screen time per day and I only play Hytale with her. We'll look into building a little farm next and then maybe tame some chickens! #hytale #videogames

  Didn't realise that two of my blogs were down due to a caching layer that I put in front of them. My uptime monitors thus returned 200s as if everything was normal. I don't know if this was a good thing or bad thing.

  Been using this flashcards app for learning Chinese characters for a few months. It teaches you the radicals and you learn to build up from there. I’m up to 200 characters seen so far and roughly add 2-5 new characters a day. I’ve made it my rule that I have to write each character. It helps so much! Now just need to keep this up and make it to 2k characters to be able to read a good chunk of day to day stuff…

  Been bing watching Re:Zero throughout the week. Just finished up with season 1 and started on season 2. It’s hard finding an anime I can get into nowadays but this one doesn’t disappoint! The protagonist finds himself reliving the events leading up to his death, so in order to avoid it he must use the knowledge of the previous life to figure something out. It’s really satisfying when it works out! #anime

  Feeling rather proud of myself this morning. Got up early, replaced a toilet handle… Now I’m trapped in Ikea. Also new ADHD meds which I think are working? At least I’m out getting things done that I usually postpone repeatedly.

  Good time to start Subnautica? Gave it a try a few times a while back but never got beyond an hour in or so. Not for lack of interest though. Given the sequel is making waves, I’m thinking about trying it again. #videogames #games #gaming

  Wish I booked another day to recoup. Between driving up north with jet lag, eating out, shopping, picking up the cat. I’m ready to call it and sleep. Then it’s back to work tomorrow. The house is a mess and I don’t have the energy to clean. The grass also needs cutting. I have a 4 yr old that doesn’t run out of energy and needs somebody constantly watching. Some chores will just have to wait until the weekend. Perhaps won’t be until next week before I’m back with the usual nonsense. 😴

  The cat is home but he needs to readjust a bit. I missed the old guy and super happy to have him back! Given his age, I’ve been nonstop worrying while he’s been in the cattery but he got on great there. Now times for cuddles! #cat #catsofmastodon

  Went to a supermarket today. A supermarket for kids, that is. There were lots of activity areas like soft play, role play, arcade machines etc. It was pretty expensive to get in but you paid once and you could stay the entire day. Had a lot of fun here!

  Went around the city centre today and ended up at a fountain that ‘dances’ to music. If you got too close you’d be soaked, so naturally, the kids loved it. At night time it’ll have a light show too but I haven’t managed to catch that one yet.

  And so begins the journey back to the UK. We won’t be flying until tomorrow but today we head up to Beijing and say our goodbyes to family.

  I slept on Phantasy Star Zero. It’s closer to the OG Phantasy Star Online than I expected and I love it. If my flight has WiFi then I’m sorted! (Downside of playing for retroachievements is online connectivity is required)
