I think Linux as desktop UI for me is probably headed in the same direction as typing code in an editor: fun and nostalgic, but not productive

In the 2000's there weren't enough software engineers. Somebody recogized that every fifteen year old and their nephew was learning javascript by copy/pasting myspace configs and then teaching themselves javascript in 24 hours courtesy of SAMS Publishing Node.js was born Now we have electron apps and npm supply chain vulnerabilities and brittle, fragile infrastructure

Experience can't be taught. You can't buy experience from a boot camp or a book. Experience by definition is amount of time with ass in chair doing the work and getting beat up and cut and learning

I postulate that every LLM inference provider that charges by token (that is to say, all of them) is highly incentivized to get us to consume tokens. Have you noticed that the consumer-facing chatbots end every output with a question that tries to compel you to continue the dialog? There's little profit in encouraging efficient resource consumption

It is absolutely wild times that I can be testing something on a website on mobile, notice a bug, paste a screenshot into the Claude mobile app and say "fix dis" and it's off and running. And for shits and giggles I tagged GitHub Copilot on the PR.

Apple's reputation as user friendly is a fucking sham What user friendly software designer decided to make sure the user's work is thoroughly disrupted by software updates that should be silent? Every fucking day I have my typing suddenly redirected to a little useless dialog box that informs me that some app that is not my current focus of attention is being verified. The user does NOT need to see this!

By definition, an agent has agency. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, et al do _not_ have agency. They are agent orchestrators, not actual agents. It's the same distinction as "IDE" to "java class" or "node module"

Often when people say they want a faster horse it's only because they don't realize that they actually want a car. That doesn't mean they're ready for a stealth fighter, though.

We're in a world of increasingly disposable software. AI slop is often somebody who never dreamed of creating something now empowered to create. A LOT of people are creating a LOT now, and most of it is absolute shit, but there are going to be gems of good ideas and brilliance. How do we extract the signal from the noise?

These headlines are fucking stupid. Claude Code didn't delete shit. A dev deleted his shit using Claude Code. https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/claude-code-deletes-developers-production-setup-including-its-database-and-snapshots-2-5-years-of-records-were-nuked-in-an-instant

I've been bouncing around between different AI dev tools, as I go along realizing that the near-term problem to solve is going to be orchestrating agents and associated artifacts and scaffolding. I'm discovering that I think warp.dev is what I've been looking for - as soon as I started exploring its other features, I forgot it was a terminal with a shell, but that's there too

I propose an AI era update to Atwood's Law, if somebody hasn't already: Anything that can be specified in Markdown will eventually be specified in Markdown.
