A crow came up to me with a look in its eye while I was walking. I paused. “Can I help you?” It hopped off, not far off. I cross the street. It flew over, not hostile. “What’s up? Do you want something?” It cocked its head. I checked my pockets. I found a key ring and removed the keys.

A mailing list has 10 to 20 times the impact per subscriber/follower than social media. That said, I have 20 times more followers than subscribers so the impact is often similar!

I took a walk yesterday at what must have been baby o’clock: every single baby and toddler was out with their parents. Must have been the end of Uniform Nap Time, which we observe in the Socialist State of Seattle.

I have tried to not make my feed an infinite scroll of this, but here is a reminder: That One Matt Bors Comic is an anthology of Matt, writers and cartoonists, and randos from the internet who are/have riffed on “we should improve society somewhat.” https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/glennf/that-one-matt-bors-comic

All the Bluesky bubble people showing their whole ass, as their comments reveal the paucity of who they follow. The bubble is inside yourself. Also, grow up; it is just a fancy CB radio, not the future of humanity. Unless you’re on X, which is a network of Nazi walkie-talkies.

I’m unfollowing everyone who is trying to create Internet Main Characters. It isn’t healthy (unless they are politicians or people with political power and even then not rally), and I pledge to stop doing it to avoid being a hypocrite.

Have you ever heard “we should improve society somewhat” used as a conversation stopper? Or as an ironic rejoinder to someone claiming we must be perfect to achieve any change? Have I got a book for you: That One Matt Bors Comic, now on Kickstarter! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/glennf/that-one-matt-bors-comic?ref=3glvj0 Why do a book about a single comic—nay, a single panel of a single comic? To examine how a phrase becomes a meme, how artists aren’t paid when that happens, how memes an...

I am gingerly posting my first Mac app—it's a simple gap-filling (and free) app still in beta that just alerts you via floating window, email, or iMessage (or all three) when a monitored drive (internal or external) exceeds a percentage full you set. I couldn't find any utility that did more than a pop-up alert. https://www.misterplimsoll.app

I was going to sell our old, not-yet-beater, but not-great-mileage Honda Fit to buy a used Nissan Leaf. But then our older kid needs a car for summer work (unusual for them), so despite them being a better driver than me, I didn’t want to give them a new-ish car, particularly because it will involve driving to a mountaineering camp (if they get the job)! So I’m about to go test ride a new electric bike instead! WA state offers a rebate lottery, and I got picked—$300 credit!

RE: https://scholar.social/@electricarchaeo/116403935190726666 All quotes you get from Chinese printers tell you that you have to clear the censor. Not just political: sometimes it’s about depictions of violence, inclusion of LGBTQIA themes, references to certain kinds of technology. I don’t print my books in China, reason 3 of many.
