  Achievement unlocked! We occasionally hear an #icecream van bleating out its eerie call nearby, but either it's just before tea time, or despite pounding the streets around the house I've abjectly failed to locate it. NOT TODAY! Not only did I hear it, but it was after lunch so prime pudding time, not only did I find it, but I actually flagged it down and it stopped! Four and a half decades old and FINALLY I obeyed the "Stop Me And Buy One" commandment. Just don't ask...

  That was quite a good evening of recreational networking: #UniFi router connected via #Wireguard to a #Mikrotik. It took a bit of jiggerypokery around firewall and NAT rules on the UniFi, but eventually - thanks to a Reddit comment or two - I have persuaded the WG client to act as a site-to-site VPN. I'm quite pleased. The key? Adding a NAT bypass rule to stop the UniFi masquerading the LAN into the WG VPN. And a PBR rule to direct VPN traffic accordingly. And some FW rules for the in...

  Neighbour is welding his railings next door. He warned me, no problem. But still, I keep jumping at the sound of electrical arcing and seeing the shadows of the spark dance through the windows. Turns out electric arcing is a trigger noise for me. Bzzzzzzzzzttt!

  I am pleased to report that just now I encountered the PERFECT alignment of bathroom floor linoleum, slight dampness due to the shower being recently used, and whatever my socks are made of. ...When I balanced on my heel and span around slowly, it sounded like I was letting one rip. Loudly and slowly. Repeatedly. It was so convincing, $child2 angrily told me to get the spray out. I'm still chuckling about this, an hour later.
