The Moray coast and #Aberdeenshire are not the most visited parts of #Scotland, but I am just back from #cycling Route EV1 from Inverness to Aberdeen. The route was delightful, encompassing moorland and forest from Inverness to Nairn, fishing villages/towns on the Moray coast, and fertile farmlands in Aberdeenshire. Ups & downs but not too hilly. Highly recommended. #biketoot

I know that art appreciation is very personal, but IMHO this is possibly the wierdest & most deeply unpleasant bit of sculpture I have seen in my life. Located in the centre of #Elgin #Scotland. Why, I ask myself?

Cycle friendly #Aberdeenshire! The #EV1 cycle route through the area is really lovely!

If you hadn't gathered, we are on the #IsleofMan for a few days. As well as cracking geology (check out the folds in the picture) birdlife (choughs!) and adventures with #kippers we had a brilliant day's cycling. For the evening's entertainment we managed to blag two of the last tickets to see the #Proclaimers in the magnificent Art Deco Villa Marina Royal Hall. A great day indeed!

If the government really wanted to get kids off #socialmedia it's pretty easy. Rather than ban the <16's I would : 1. ban algorithmic feeds on social media 2. ban advertising on social media. Bit like #Mastodon really. Social interaction is ready and waiting for everyone but you have to work at it a bit. IMHO most kids would likely give up and go do something else.

I have just re-read The Fifth Elephant by #terrypratchett & was a bit embarrassed to say that on my first reading I had missed that a main feature of the story is a parody of the theft and return of the #Scottish Stone of Scone, aka Stone of Destiny, rendered by #Pratchett as the Scone of Stone. As in life & in the book, is the recovered stone/scone real or a fake, & more importantly does it actually matter? The symbolism is the thing. #discworld https://en.wikipedia.org/...

@Infoseepage Your point about Ted I being slipped a dummy is quite possible, but if the symbolism is the issue it doesn't matter if most people think it is the "real" stone. Regarding the footprint at #Dunadd, this is truly a fake. I'm a geologist & on my first visit I looked at it & realised that the stone around the impression didn't match the surrounding rock. I took my hand lense & realised it was a man made composite. The o...

Have you ever wondered why you share your Scottish surname with a #Jamaican? If you have any interest in Scottish history, I highly recommend the book "Bought & Sold, Scotland, Jamaica & Slavery" by Kate Phillips. I knew that Scots / #Scotland had a long history of involvement in the slave trade & sugar plantations, but I had no idea of the depth of involvement, especially in #Jamaica. Every level of Scottish society financially benefitted directly or i...

A ferry from #Scotland to Europe will be wonderful but I'm fed up with promises that progress is getting made but no concrete decisions. We borrowed a thermal imaging camera to check our flat for cold spots. We were delighted to see how effective our newly installed double glazing windows are. In the picture we are the upstairs flat. Our downstairs neighbours still have single glazing. I now feel a little better about the swinging cost of the windows. That will teach me not to buy another property in a conservation area!

RE: https://mastodon.scot/@Wen/116057203624649202 FFS😡. You can see this concept of patented screw heads proliferating across multiple industries. #Cycling spings to mind with incompatible SRAM, Shimano & Campag screw heads.
