Gee, preparing for a fun week off has never been so stressful. I’m trying my best to tie up a bunch of loose ends at work, but people keep bringing Weird Shit to me for triage. 😩

I suspect most major Linux distribution maintainers have already released kernel packages that patch the bug. (I've confirmed that the exploit doesn't work on my fully upgraded F44 systems.) https://copy.fail/

Walked around the Crossroads of the World. My left leg would like to not do that now for a while. Good thing my reservation is in 20 minutes.

Apropos of nothing, I was reminded tonight of a stellar cocktail bar tucked away in Gamla Stan (of Stockholm) in Sweden. It sticks in my mind as a highlight in Stockholm. Absolutely magical cocktails. Looking at their 2026 menu, I'm still blown away. https://www.flipsnack.com/CF7BBB77C6F/pharmarium-2026 And then I saw this artwork on one of the menu pages. #fox

I'm fairly sure that Google is punishing me for using uBlock Origin by refusing to let me successfully complete any captcha even though I've unblocked all the correct third party sites.

Updated my Lenovo to Fedora 44 a few days ahead of release1, as it seems they have pinned that RC to be the release version anyway. I don't see any mentions of "RC" anywhere in my about status.

Oh, #OnePiece, how I've missed you these past three months! The Great Hiatus is over. :D

This is what I do to shoes in the course of a year. On the right is what I walked into the store wearing. On the left is the bottom of a new shoe of the same model. I’m surprised they lasted this long. I wonder if I just don’t walk properly.

Going to bed a bit early tonight in order to make up for waking up early last night.

It started rainin' around here a short while ago, with the threat of severe thunderstorms, but for now it's a gentle rain, comfortably cool (not cold) ... and I'm just sitting at the open window.

Son of a fucking bitch. Solved a non-critical routing problem at work that had been plaguing me for at least a week. And it was something so stupid. Also, policy based routing with NAT is the devil.

Spent nearly all of the day yesterday at our office north of Boston helping a colleague from Cali move the network room, for my part firewalls and DNS appliances. At dinner it was suggested that we try out this hot pot/KBBQ place in So Nashua. You order ingredients on a tablet and they bring it to your table. It was a little loud and hectic but also Friday night. Still, I would go back there again. Got home just as the clock struck midnight. And I have two remote changes this weekend from oth...

SciShow has partnered up with Maya Higa, from Alveus Sanctuary, to tell an uncharacteristically long-form[1] story about the 1925 Nome Diptheria outbreak and why the Nome Serum run was so improbable. It also features interviews with Blair Braverman, herself an Iditarod musher, and Dr. Heather Huson, who worked with sled dogs and became an animal genetecist. It tells the story of some of the mushers as well as some very good boys and girls. [1]: for a SciShow episode that isn't a compilation...

I have dry, bare spots in my uncovered driveway... next to three-foot snow drifts. I can see most of the passenger side of my car, except for the front door, which is blocked up to the window. I have icicles sticking out snow drifts hanging off my gutter. The city plow couldn't find the border between the sidewalk and the road and unintentionally plowed almost my entire front sidewalk. (Thanks!) We didn't get nearly as much snow as folks feared. I'd say we got maybe 12 inches, on...
