To anyone thinking you find utopia in legislation or find it in a far off world. Remember that you make where you're at what it is. So if you want a good place, start sowing kindness and civility into where you are. Give a coworker a coffee, leave the last doughnut for someone else, slip a $5 in the pocket of an unsuspecting person.

I think I'm too old for the internet. Everyone around me gets uptight about boot times and how fast a computer can complete a given task, and I'm out here just being like "Nah, she got this. I have no idea what she's doing, but you better bet it's important we wait the 10 minutes for whatever is happening behind this GUI."

Frankly I'm starting to be tempted by the absurd notion of using a microcontoller as my computer or server, to see how far I can push efficient programming. Who needs more powerful hardware when your software has a shit ton of fat you can cut to boost performance and polish your skills as an engineer.

Can modern CPUs be more intimately controlled through C programs like older CPUs can? I know they do a lot of guess work and predictions to achieve the speeds they have, but am I still able to tell it exactly what it needs to do without it doing the predictions or is the CPU microcode out of my reach to disable?

I have a dream of a hardwood desk, a lamp, and a comfy office chair with a big chunky computer in front of me I can write code on.
