so exhausted that I'm kind of hoping none of my lovely friends who I'm very excited to see show up to the pub where i invited them to come see me, so i can sit by myself and read the third Shadow of the Leviathan book tbh (if you see this and intend to come PLEASE DO i will be so happy to see you. but will also be happy to read quietly next to you)

small cute colleague Aussie-isms: the whole lot of them use 🦘 to mean skip, e.g. "nothing on the agenda for this meeting, 🦘" means the meeting is cancelled

wrote the first full outline of the talk I'm giving in October and I'm so excited about it. took about 45 mins of chatting it over before we teased out all the interesting bits and pieces we'd forgotten since we actually did the work please remind me of this enthusiasm once i hit the pit of despair phase that's coming in a couple of weeks

RE: https://mastodon.art/@MicroSFF/116983047611794843 this is what moving to Australia was like. except AFL teams are much like gender, you don't need to worry, one will be assigned to you

every time I try to research embroidery machines lots of what i read starts with dire warnings about how using them for custom designs, or even tailoring the designs, requires SOFTWARE LANGUAGES OMG and unfortunately that is the part i am least worried about like, i GET IT, but also ... it feels very weird

it's embarrassing having a friend to stay and realising they get to see me how i actually live - in the scruffiest clothes i own, covered in pug fur and chip crumbs, running on caffeine and gentle frustration, locked up in my tiny office

Day 1 of celiac oat reintroduction... wish me luck. Had a spoonful with breakfast. Was sort of hoping for something exciting, for novelty reasons if nothing else, but no, they're still just oats. Looking forward to regularly having porridge with all the toppings in the future though!

i got a talk accepted to a conference in Prague for October after a string of rejections. absolutely no idea if i can attend, for a myriad of reasons, but I'm so excited and happy. i could really use a little holiday and an adventure. i have a loosely-held goal of going to a new country every year. 2024 was Canada. 2025 was Indonesia. 2026 could be Czechia.

a colleague suggested the Antimatter Division game to me recently and suddenly i am spending all my spare brain cycles making Number Go Up. it scratches some weird itch in my brain

layout for quilt no. 6 i think - quite happy with it. aiming to get all the rows joined today. i thought I'd challenge myself to get this one done within two weeks but I've been way too tired for that #quilt #quilting #quilttop

dropped by the fabric store after work and found this gorgeous quilting fabric at a massively discounted $3 a metre! extremely excited for it, might use it as backing fabric on my hand-quilting project #quilting #quilt #quiltfabric #sewing

a small win: a fabric subscription i desperately wanted from a small local fabric store would only send me a single order, not sign me up for the recurring order, unless i gave them my credit card number over the phone. when they called to ask for my credit card number, i very politely explained that i don't give out my credit card number over the phone as a matter of practice, based on my area of expertise, and that it wasn't personal, and I'd love to sign up in the future if they...

had a fun bug on Friday. i wrote a DB migration to add a dummy value for a new property in a C# class, represented in the DB with JSON. the class containing the new property blew up on deserialization with newtonsoft. I'd copied the db migration from a recent successful one, so i had no idea why the code wasn't working. the screenshot is the fix. anyone want to guess what occurred here?
