My research career has been er... eclectic. I have published in a fairly wide variety of computer and information science subdomains. Today I noticed one of my papers published in one subdomain, cited in a rather different one (where I&#39;ve also published). This is reassuring for reasons that I can&#39;t quite articulate.

The (surely prescient) title of John Christopher/Sam Youd&#39;s novel &quot;The Death of Grass&quot; has long terrified me. At the moment though, The Death of Curiosity is what&#39;s truly keeping me awake at night.

20+ years spent in research adjacent to (and occasionally in) information retrieval and to this day I cannot read the phrase bag-of-words without thinking of Paul Calf&#39;s phrase of choice.
